Cordless screwdriver recommendations?

Trying to find something small, for light duty, like assembling furniture.

Is a typical 4-volt cordless screwdriver OK for this? If so, which one would you recommend, keeping it on the budget?

I already ordered this SKIL one, but haven't received it yet:

I've looked into the 8-volt ones too, but they seem generally larger and not much smaller than my 12V Bosch, which is what I use now, but find it too big/overkill for basic screw driving.

Thanks!

I have the Skil you listed. Lots of controllable torque for $20 . Decent quality phillips and straight driver bits. Very pleased. Runs a long time on a charge. Mine is now 3+ years ago.

Since it doesn't have torque adjustment ring, are you referring to controlling the torque via modulating the trigger button?

I really never saw the advantage of these, unless you are doing some kind of production work. I like to take my time, ensure everything is aligned properly, then use a regular screwdriver, preferably Phillips head, since they are more tolerant to misalignment.
Battery powered screwdrivers would demand that the head of the screw were Phillips, (or torx of course) since a regular slotted screw will almost always slip out the first 3 or 4 attempts to tighten it.

Just my take on these of course. If you are in a very awkward position, and can't get the best purchase on the screwhead, these can be handy too.

Thanks!

not really. it does not spin real fast , just enough that screws go in smoothly and your less likely to jump off the head of the screw IME

My lady friend and I put up pre made shelving into studs and each screw was probably 10-15 sec to secure.

I was previously looking at the Bosch/Dremel since it has good max torque and 'push to activate'. Ended up buying the Vessel 3-speed.

I love the Vessel since it has the same form factor as their standard ball grip drivers. It's comfortable to use as a regular screwdriver. But it does lack torque.

Put together an Ikea dresser last night with it. For most screws, it would get them started but would stall out and I'd need to finish them manually, which again, is comfortable with this one.

I use m12 non-fuel drill. tiny. plenty of power. 2 speeds.
uses m12 batteries i have 9 of.

With clutch you dont have to worry about stripped holes..
(dont use impact driver on furniture)

Bosch has a really nice one but I dont need another battery type.

I just ordered a Ryobi kit with right angle and offset adapter plus an extra battery for $50 on sale at HD. Free shipping. Thanks very much for getting me to spend money.

My son gave me a Dewalt (DWT66719) for Christmas. At the time I probably wouldn't have bought it for myself as it cost about 75.00. I love it. It really comes in handy for light work. I use it alot for removing and installing electrical fixtures, ceiling lights, etc. It makes quick work of the long retention screws on switches and receptacles. A very nice tool. Charges quickly with USB cord and charger. Comes with a set of Dewalt bits. For giggles I tried to drive a 3" screw into a 2x4, no can do.

I have been using the Bosch PS22 for years now and cant tell you how much I like these small Bosch tools. The PS22 is discontinued but some are still around new, now they have the PS42 which is more powerful and is a impact driver with an electronic clutch both things I don't need or want in this tool. The PS22 has a mechanical clutch that can go low enough to put dash screws back in without stripping or cracking the plastic.
I use it on almost every job from installing small screws to running up oil and transmission pan bolts up, removing under body and wheel well shields and driving in self drilling sheet metal screws through the patch and the body at one time, no pre-drilling. Battery life is very good and the tools have never had a problem. It is a small light tool that is perfect for what I use it for, I just may buy another one while I can.

I bought the Amazon basics screwdriver and it is very good for the price but it is very limited and slow compared to the PS22, I find I don't use it very much if at all.
I also use the Bosch 3/8 drive impact gun, this is tiny and is perfect for under the hood, it is not going to remove head or crank bolts but 90% of bolts and nuts around the engine are no problems. It is definitely one of my go to tools.

Isnt that always the way they discontinued it and all the "replacements" aren't the same tool class.
you have to go impact driver or drill.

They do have a brushed ps-21 model that is the closest to replacing it still available.
Every site I've seen is out of stock. I'd call that place you listed to see if they actually have it before ordering.

I found this after I posted as I was looking around myself. Basically the same tool just a few inch pounds more jam. I just ordered it.
