How much would it cost to do this? It would no doubt be less expensive to run your vehicle on natural gas as compared to gasoline, but would you achieve any net savings after paying the cost of the conversion?

It's not much different from propane except for the super high pressure gas tanks. The problem is where are you going to fill them? Unless you already have a local source cheaper than gas forget about it. There are home pumping units but they are hard to find and probably cost more than your car.

While I still haven't been able to find out if anyone makes a CNG conversion kit for my car (1999 Corolla), I'm finding out these kits are very expensive and I also haven't been able to figure out why that is either. Seems to me these kits consists of a tank and some plumbing. I don't see why that should cost thousands of dollars. Seems to me that could be done for $1K or less. Looks like these companies that make these conversion kits are doing some serious price gouging.

GNG is dispensed at up to 3600psi. That means that the tank and fill lines have to be built to withstand about double that for safety. That is why it is so expensive. A CNG Honda Civic is priced over $5000 more that a comparable gasoline model. Some of that cost is due to low production, but also the cost of special parts, including a kevlar blast shield between the tank and passenger compartment.

N.G. is a real good feul clean in the engine and real clean emission wise but I doubt if there will ever be a pay back if a conversion is done. You would have to have a specific reason to spend the $$$$ other than saving on the price of gas.

See my fuel economy figures and how much I'm spending on fuel from my sig below.

My car starts on gasoline, runs on CNG when the RPM is above 750 and idles on gasoline.
