Bummer, I wonder how much money we will send.
Be interesting to see if another quake occurs elsewhere, in the near future, these plates build and transfer stress to another location after a quake, thats my opinion.

Death toll is quite stunning..........

Why should we send money? China is quite prosperous. Even in those videos, you don't see mud and stick villages. Look at the people, cars, etc...

Some evidence of China's progress, and building codes:

Quote:
The last time China saw such a big earthquake was on July 28, 1976, when a 7.8-magnitude quake shook Tangshan, a city in China's northeast Hebei province. More than 240,000 people were killed

China has enough money. We don't need to be spending any more. Goodwill gesture is fine.

Two large natural disasters within a 2 week window.

Probably because its a goodwill gesture, since they sent a Million dollars for Hurricane relief a few years ago.

I was actually trying to be sarcastic, without sounding insensitive to the Chinese people, they truly suffering right now.

Up to now by what I heard from the mid-night news, it's already 8000 people killed. It was such a disaster that we could actually feel the quake in Hong Kong, which is 2000 km away from the quake region. Feels really bad.

Yes indeed. Thousand of people felt the shaking including myself. Some specialists mention that this quake happened so close to the ground level(-10 km) which is rare and that's why it caused so serious damage.

Well..we can send money (which is essentially borrowed from china anyways) So all it will cost us is interest. (Obviously we can't afford to pay it back)

From Beijing to Hong Kong, man, that's like the entire china vertically. Is't that kind of like an earthquake in Chicargo and both New York and San Francisco can feel it.

900 buried in one high school alone and another five schools collaped near it. Couldn't have happened at a worst time than 2:30pm when everybody still in school. No kid deserves to die let alone like that.

Til all is said and done the dead will be 50,000 ..probably more. If that occurred here the country would be bankrupt trying to give everyone their life back. In china its a problem, but not a national calamity.

No, in our country everyone would blame the President AND we would go bankrupt giving everyone 2X of what that had before, and a Cadillac, a hooker and welfare for life!!

Yea..I realize that. I didn't want to sound like my pessimistic self. Thanks for adding the above items. Probably still understated. After November though they likely won't blame the president anymore.

But seriously..if and when it happens in Cali it will be ugly. Can you imagine the number of wealthy illegals will be spawned??
