I think a big part of this board's advice for you to get an attorney is to make sure your head's screwed on straight.

You may make a mistake in the courtroom out of emotion, that the attorney would not make. The mechanics of representing yourself are somewhat easy; lay out the facts then be quiet. I would tend to believe you, paying cash in the distant past then switching to checks out of wiseness. But then I'm not a psycho family law judge.

Get a lawyer, but not that one asking you for all sorts of financial information. That one is going to over charge you, and that will make you ask your dad for extra money. Stay away from that lawyer.

Next, make sure you tell the lawyers that you haven't seen your child since whenever she left the country. Then tell them that you talked to the grandmother, and that you just found out that none of your child support has gone to your child since the time that she moved out of the country.

I think the main reason why your gf is trying to get you to pay for the plane ticket to get your daughter back into the country is so that she can prove to the welfare office that she is actually caring for the child.

DO NOT PAY FOR THE CHILD TO COME BACK TO THE COUNTRY!!!
Let the mother come up with that money her self.

Get a Lawyer.
And the next time you are in court, have your lawyer tell the judge that you have not seen your daughter in xx number of months, that she is not living with the mother, the daughter lives out of the country, and that none of your child support payments have been going to the daughter's care.

And, just for the extra level of clarity, I would probably even request a paternity test on the new child, just so that she doesn't try to claim that the new one is yours, and that's who the child support money is going towards.

Did I mention that you need to get a lawyer?

QUICK UPDATE : Been really busy lately and kind alway stressful over this stuff last couple month, and I dont event come to visit here often.

couple month ago, I have feeling I need to fight this myself, I beleive " if doing the right thing, right alway be right " some u might think im thinking dumb by not get a lawyer, but deep down inside me I STRONGLY beleive on that. So I dint get any lawyer for this, im wait for court day and tell the judge myself. so every day after work im checking my mail box for court paper. so its been very stressful for me

anyway last week I receive a paper from child support center, say from now on I need to mail child support moneys DIRECTLY to child support center and not to my ex. THAT GOOD !! IM DEFINALLY FEELING RELIVE ON THIS, CAUSE I HAVE NO PROBLEM DOING THAT. from now on, every time im send a money order to child support center, I will make a copy and date on that, and keep it in a box, and send it out 3-4 day ahead. so later on if something like this happent again, I got all in record.

btw recently I made good amount of moneys at my job, and im use those extra cash, so I been knock out those credit card debt, and few other debt

. I been not buy thing that I dont need and work on pay off debt, now im couple hundred dollar til debt FREE hehe. I feel really good and happy.

that the update, im back to my normal life now. BTW IF YOU DO THE RIGHT THING, AT THE END IT WILL COME OUT ARITE. JUST BELEIVE IN YOURSELF AND GOD AND PUSH THRU THOSE TOUGH TIME, YOU WILL MADE IT.

You might consider some place to keep your money. TO much in your checking or savings account and the courts will grab at least some of it. Cash in a safety deposit box at a bank different than the one with your checking account. Even that came be found if the courts or lawyers are aggressive enough.

Gold, silver and rare coins all have expensive fees attached.

Keeping spare cash in a safety deposit box that's in the name of a trusted person might be the best bet.

Paying down debt is always a smart move. Government backed debt is the best ones to pay off first if possible (student loans, FHA home loans, etc...) those are NOT discharged in bankruptcy-should that ever happen. Secured debt is the next place to pay down/off. That would be auto loans, mortgages, etc....
Credit cards are un-secured debt. There's nothing backing them up but your word-so to speak.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Unless you're the mafia this strikes me as a pretty bad idea. Just keep it in the freezer.
