I am looking at purchasing a model 90300 4500 watt Chicago Electric generator with Robin/Subaru EX27 9hp OHC engine for my mother-in-law. From what I have seen and heard of the Robin engine, it is high quality, made in Japan. My concerns lay with the Chicago Electric Chinese made generator head. Anyone have any experience with this generator model? This is the perfect generator for her, as it is the right size (light weight), right price ($530), and is also electric start. Thank you. Philip.

I was just looking at that exact unit in HF locally last night.

Looks half decent, especially given the price... I dont know for certain though.

I tried looking through the rv.net forum for info on that unit, and all that I could really find was someone saying that it was REALLY loud. I saw on the website 78dB @3m, which seems about normal to me...

What other tidbits did you find? Did you actually buy the unit? Any impressions?

JMH

P.S. It is also listed as 90236, and is onlt $469!

JHZR2, I have not purchased yet. Overall I think it looks nice too. The control panel could be a little more water proof. I would add a hour meter, and that cannot be added in the small panel, so it will have to be mounted next to the panel on the flat plate to the left. Just unsure of the Chinese powerhead. Check the HF 90236, that may be recoil start only, hence the lower price. I let my Mother-in-law borrow my 14HP Generac and she could not pull start, so I put a battery on for her. I always used the pull start when I needed it, no big deal to me, just an extra battery to maintain now. Philip.
