My 1st post here. And so my 1st question here will be this:

I know that Castrol Syntec is now called Castrol Edge with Syntec. I was wondering what is the difference between them now that the name is switched?

not much from what i can tell. they claim its better

Never used it and don't care to. There is much better oils on the market for cheaper. Seems like it is the same oil with a different name that's all.

It is kind of hard to say other than for marketing purposes, the new Syntec is SN and has a slightly different add pack. I used it and was very impressed, in fact I was so impressed I will probably be switching over to it "full time" in my Altima. It seems to have run the smoothest in it. I have used many oils in it too...PP,PU,M1 AFE,M1EP,M1(dexos), G-Oil, Amsoil 5w30ASL, QSUD, PYB, SynPower. Trust me I gave all a good chance, the blend I have in now was the last thing I wanted to try besides the new Edge FST.

Great oil, Hope this helps, I am not brand loyal and only my Altima seems to care what oil is in the engine.

According to Castrol, GC has not been reformulated, but the other grades have been. Castrol's web site details which grades are different and to some degree, how they are different -- primarily a new dispersant.

Theres Edge Syntec which is just old Syntec in SN flavor or Edge with Titanium which has a new Titanium additive also found in their conventional line of motor oils that hasnt been proven of its worth over Moly yet and I fear change. Plus its really over priced! Little bit of BP price gouging to make up for their loss in the ocean.

Is there anywhere saying that Castrol is using Titanium in there conventional motor oils? As far as i know Castrol only uses this in Edge and is still using moly in ther GTX; Mobil uses it in the Super line up; Kendall uses it in their GT-1 with Liquid Titanium.

Really no moly?!?! I thought they just reduced it to only around 50ppm but i thought there was still some in there. But it doesnt matter to me as I won't use castrol due to their poor cold weather characteristics!

Thanks for all of the info guys.

The main reason I was asking this question was because I had just bought some on sale at O'Reilly and all they had in stock was the plain Syntec in 5w-40.

One more question I have is how many miles can this oil last? It's my first time with CS.

I run 6-7k OCIs w/Syntec 5W40 in my high mileage Audi. I've never done a UOA, but there isn't a hint of sludge underneath my valve cover @ 164k mi.

Again, as mentioned above, according to Castrol's website, Edge with Syntec has been reformulated as compared with Syntec (except for 0W-30). For those that are posting that Edge with Syntec is just re-packaged Syntec, can you please provide an authoritative reference. Castrol appears to be claiming that the dispersant has changed.

Syntec SN or Edge with Syntec has changed their add pack and possibly some base changes as there are slight differences in their PDS. The only ones that stayed the same are the Euro Formula (0w30) as you said. You are right.

I just switched over to Castrol Edge with Syntec from full Syn QSUD in my Infiniti G35. It really made a difference! It was a night and day difference. My VQ really responded well!

Next week I will be using the black bottle 5W-20 in my wife's Acura TL. I had been using Green bottle, but it looks now a switch is due.

I was using German Castrol. Is this oil gone now? Can't find it anywhere.
