I'm thinking a bottle of old stock. Here are photos of 5w40 taken right after.

The earlier image posted showing 229.3 was a 5 liter (or quart) jug of edge 5W-40. Castrol uses a separate color for each SAE viscosity label and it stays consistent. Yellow is 5W-40, Black is 0W-40, and so on.

Castrol 0w40 has had mb 229.5 approval ever since it was first introduced in North America. You posted an image of a different product.
 
Just checked. Yep, I was showing the specs for 5w40, not 0w40. The other 5w40 specs were from a one liter container. Sorry for the error. Here are the correct specs from the back of the jug of 0w40.
