So the Kia dealership where I bought the car (2019 Sorento V6 EX, GDI engine) offers a full synthetic change for $50.00. You have to purchase 3 of them together, but the regular single purchase price is $65, so its a $15.00 discount over that.
Is $50 a good price for this? They use TOTAL Quartz 9000 5w30 synthetic.
If I brought my own oil to them it would prob. be a synthetic from Mobil, Pennzoil, or SuperTech.
My OCI is 5,000 miles. Thank you in advance for any advice.

That Total oil is better than anything you'll bring in, waste money on and look like a weirdo in the process. That is a fantastic price considering how much that oil cost.

Let dealship do it. Anything happens you have proof oil changes done. 50 is a steal for synthetic oil changes as if you brought your own oil then you can add about 25 to cost of oil change so it could be higher. The one thing to watch for is hidden charges I.e. disposal fee or shop fees.

What is the oil capacity of that engine? If it is a lot, I think it is a fantastic dealership price.

Check out hidden fees, or if it is really Total oil versus them just telling you that.

98% of people are not going to know or care about Total Quartz, it's a pretty uncommon oil in North America. They could just as easily use QSUD as more people would recognize that name. Synthetic OCs are like $100 here at shops (not that I would know) so $50 U$D for an uncommon oil is a pretty good value.

I'd do the dealer deal in heart beat. Get out of the house or shop for while. Have some coffee and do-nut. Kick some tires. Drive home with good oil, and the service is in their system, so no warranty questions. Why even question it ...

Dealer says if I brought my own oil to bring 6 quarts for a change. The capacity listed in the manual states 6.87 quarts for a change.

To Tiger682, I am assuming that if I brought my own oil that they would deduct their oil costs and just charge me for the labor and filter only.

Thank you for all the advice. Will let the dealership do it! Wife is so happy! She is telling me, "Good!, Now you can get the _ _ _ _ off of the computer!! HAHA!

Great deal if you don't do your own oil
I get that oil for $65 shipped for a 12 pack on sale

Amazing so far - not one vote against letting a "stealership" do an oil change. I guess using synthetic oil and cheap price is the magic combination for folks here...

something doesn't smell right here. I'd have to witness then cracking the foil and a fresh jug of they total oil to make sure it is real. I've seen quite a few stories about they say they put in X fancy name brand oil then run to the back and pump in whatever bulk oil is in the till. 99.9% of customers dont know the difference.

Two things set off alarm bells. Most dealerships are charging near $100 for M1 or Dealership brand synthetic oil changes. Many cars when they do synthetic oil changes are allowing longer OCIs up toe 10K miles 7.5K miles is common.

If you come in at 5K they can just put in a decent dino oil and you nor your engine will never know the difference.

I'd buy M1 or PP with rebate for $10-$12/5qt jug and let them put it in with an OEM filter. How much are they charging if you bring your own oil in? I'd still want to watch them tap and pour the oil in my car. I really don't trust auto shops. Dealerships or otherwise.

Really? OP just use the dealerships deal. ^^^^Mumbo Jumbo is fraud and if the dealership was caught in this it would be more than angry customers to deal with and it would cost more than the little the dealership makes on oil changes.

I would verify if they are really using Total Quartz. That is a great oil:

ACEA: A3/B4
MERCEDES BENZ: MB 229.5 backward-compatible MB-Approval 229.3
BMW: LL-01
VOLKSWAGEN: 502.00/505.00
PORSCHE A40

Happy Oil Change!

When i let the dealer do it, i always took my oil. I would stand where i could see my car being worked on and it always worked out fine. The techs were always professional and courteous.

The KIA dealership where i bought mine uses "bulk syn blend". They didn't know what brand(s). Im sure its fine, i just like knowing what it is.

A 55 gallon drum of Total Quartz 9000 5w30 runs $1004 shipped to my address. If you take the normal price of a single oil change of $65 - oil cost - filter cost = gross profit of around $30. So I doubt they're running a scam as mentioned above.

A 55 gallon drum of Mobil 5w30 runs $1742 on Amazon so quite a difference. Although from shop owners on here I've heard of them getting Service Pro synthetic (Valvoline) for $3.50/quart.
