Well, the oil certainly isn't new, but I can't find a UOA for it or much discussion of it in this forum either.

After completing an autorx treatment to my wife's 01 deville I will install 7 qts of BG Hi-L0w30 motor oil and post up a UOA after an appropriately long OCI.

I struggled mightily to come to this conclusion. The caddy is relatively new to us. I immediately started AutoRx after purchase and am 700 miles into the rinse phase. West Texas, as some may know, is HOT in the summer, and surprisingly cold in the winter; often below freezing in overnight temps. Soo, GC was obviously an option and I have some green on hand. However, it's pricey (5.99) and the Northstar is known to comsume when given thick oil. Mobil R 0w30 is nearly impossible to find and even pricier. I could've done a syn 5w30, but really wanted a 0w for this winter. Given the decent rep BG has for their fuel cleaners and overall company rep I decided to use thier oil. It's also a matter of convenience and price. 5.64 a quart (including tax!) and its within walking distance from my house. I will also be using it in my 96 zetec powered contour after the QS torque power I just put in(yay BOGO!) goes out to 5K miles.

Will be lookin forward to the UOA! This oil is hardly mentioned here; BG's ads for it on their website make it sound like it's a never drain oil!!

Holy cow! It actually contains BG MOA in the oil per their website.

Their new website only mentions 15,000 mile drains, but the old website said something like 30,000 miles and beyond

Never heard of them. You made me find their web site. I love their marketing of the 0W30, calling it HI-L0W30. Ingenious way to get people over the "0" thing.

I can't see paying 30 cents less a qt on along shot that BG is as good as GC. Ditto in spades paying maybe 2X more for BG over PP or Qtorque syn after rebates.

BG is 5.64 after taxes, GC is 5.99 before taxes (6.48qt) so its more almost a dollar a quart lower than GC, and .30 more than PP and QS torquepower at Walmart (cheapest now that the BOGO is over). Just a gut feeling, but I don't think it's such a long shot that it's at least as good as GC. We'll have a VOA soon enough.

Here's an update. The BG has been in a couple thousand miles now, and after the expected initial consumption has subsided I think it's a great oil. During the Auto-RX rinse phase it started to get some lifter/valvtrain chatter upon startup, but now that is sompletely gone and the car runs STRONG. With QS 10w30 rinseo oil the on board computer tracked gas mileage at 16.8 mpg (my wife drives alot of short trips, but this also inclued a 600+ mile road trip). Currently we are ar 18.1mpg with almost the exact same ratio of long trip to short in town trips.

I'm wondering if I should change this oil now. I have 3200 miles on the oil and it's been in about 5 months. I know this oil is portrayed by BG to be a very long drain interval oil, but I would consider my interval to be severe.

The car sees almost completely short trip/ stop and go driving during the week and a couple of shortish highway jaunts on the weekends.

So should I

A) do an analisys without changing oil and filter and wait and see the results.

or

B) change it out now and do a OUA and be better safe than sorry.

Some additional info:

Average trip length during the week is less than 3 miles stop and go all the way. Average speed for this 3200 mile interval is 17 MPH so alot of low speed (urban style) crawling. The OLM shows 55% oil life left.
