We had an irate and drunk sailor with a large sailboat intentionally ram us. He had several previous 'encounters' with the CG for various reasons. We boarded and the chief arrested him. We turned him over to the sheriff and went to jail.

We never got a 41'. I think they were good, stout boats. The 40' would only make ~18/19 kts but sounded marvelous at full throttle.

BTW, if anybody is near Fayetteville, NC there is a wonderful museum there honoring the special ops/paratroopers of FT. Bragg from WW2 to the present;

USS Briscoe DD-977 and USS San Jacinto CG-56. Lots of work, lots of underway time, and lots of fun! Things just seemed to "click" for us in the Engineering Department. Both home-ported in Norfolk, Va. Two other sea commands USS Concord AFS-5, and USS Shenandoah AD-44 were not anywhere near as rewarding. It was impossible to understand at the time but those were some of the best years of my life ever! Still keep in touch with a number of friends from the 80's on Facebook.

Australian army Sapper (Combat Engineer)

I did a bit, but not a lot. Luck of the draw.

Best mess was the Long Tan mess at 6RAR, great steaks. There was a Long Tan battle memorial in the corner with pictures and stuff from Vietnam

Still see my best mate from the army.
I was pallbearer at his Dad's funeral, he was best man at my wedding.
