I have a yard machine mower with a B&S 3.5 horsepower engine. It misses regularly. When I went to use it this spring it would barely run. I replaced the spark plug (it was covered in rust)it runs better, but still has the same problem.

I took off the air cleaner and found that the carb linkage had been replaced with some bailing wire and a small spring. Its also missing a bolt that connects the throttle/governor to the tank(its the one on the front). The tank vibrates and thus I can watch it pulling on the throttle while it runs. I'm hoping replacement of the parts will fix the problem, but I the number on the mower seems to be a yard machine number and not a B&S. If you could tell me what a decent price for these items could be I would be willing to try the local shop, but not without a ballpark number. Since it belongs to the landlord (who wants the lawn cut, but doesn't care about the mower) I don't want to spend much. Thanks

Last year I replaced the entire carb, linkage and all, on my Murray go cart. I bought it off ebay for about 60 bucks, shipped. So if its just the linkage you need I would say probably around $15-$30 with tax, estimated guess. It also probably depends on the brand too. The model # off the engine would be quite helpful to have as well.

The number on the label on top D 07667 AC. Google doesn't come up with anything. Is there any other part of the engine to check? Thanks

virtually all B&S engines come with a metal plate on the block, typically close to the muffler side. A very long series of alphanumeric set comprised of the engine family, and then the manufacturing date, batch, etc.

for older/smaller flathead type, the serial is stamped onto the upper housing:

Once you located this info, you can then proceed to locating the diagram outlining the parts, etc. and the associated parts number.

Then you take it from there.

Give me a pic of what you need, I have 30-40 mower motors from the curb, alot of them still complete, iirc. I can check for ya.

edit:

My dad decided to load alot of the junk ones on the trailer. Let me know, I still got a stash of good complete ones haha

I gave this a try but the engine has no model number on it. I did notice a sticker on the plastic shield that covers the bagger w/model number 11A-414E729. I also noticed that the sticker says MTD and google sends me to a sears parts website. I can't seem to make that work for me either. B&S website won't work for that number either.

The setup seems to be similar to this.

I am hoping that this is a generic enough mower that almost any part will work-it's a $100 throw away. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks man, but I went down to the lawn mower shop, they had both springs, they got me for ten bucks. The bolt on tank had to be ordered for another $2. The guy at the parts counter said "Yard machine!" with a bit of a scowl, but he managed to get over it and the model number was all he needed. Thanks again.

Since I was off today I went to work on the mower. I installed the springs, one was too long, but I cut it a bit and it works okay. For the special order bolt they did not give me what I needed and I should have not taken it, but I was in hurry to get to work when I stopped in. I suspect these guys just throw parts out and figured I won't be back for my $2.00, less restocking! I'll hit up ace tonight and see if they have it on the hardware department.

The mower runs better, but still not perfect. Still a fair amount of sputtering. Like it's clearing it's throat. I suspect the carb needs attention, but I won't mess with today or tomorrow, I want to enjoy my days off. These videos really helped me as its basically what I have and I suspect I will consult it in the future. Maybe they will help someone else.
