I was hoping this would work in my Borg Warner BW44-44 transfer case on my Ram but Valvoline said they don't have a fluid that crosses for the Borg Warner transfer case.

I see O'Reilly carries it.

The Valvoline fluid is awfully thin @5.91 cSt@ 100°C

Are you experiencing the shudder when turning tight? If so you need to change the fluid, run it for a while, then change again (gm recommended procedure). At $9 a bottle and 2 bottles flush it's not inexpensive.

That said, it's a questionable call, and this isn't a cheap 203 transfer case either. Personally I would just use the GM stuff, it's proven to work and work well, and in reality there is little to be gained here other than possibly a few bucks.

According to a transmission engineer at Chrysler I spoke to he said the BW 44-44 & 44-46 fluid is just DexIII. He told me he even confirmed it with one of the transfer case engineers there.

Interesting. Have you run DexIII in one of those transfer cases? If so for how long and how well did it work?

I've contacted Valvoline, SOPUS (via Gena Fishbeck), and Royal Purple and all those companies said they have no fluid to replace Mopar Part No. 68089195AA. All those companies make an ATF that crosses for DexIII.

The OEM fluid is $30 / qt. at the closest dealer. I've found it on-line for about $20 / qt. including shipping.

The FF in my transfer case is red, but the Mopar fluid is reported to be green.

Yes I have Redline D4 in my Borg Warner 44-46 which is a DexIII replacement. I put it in at about 18k and currently have 38k on the truck. When I drained the factory fill out of the T case it was red. A friend of mine has the same truck and he bought the Mopar fluid from our local dealer and when we put it in it was red also. A while back I was thinking about sending a sample of it to Blackstone just to see. However after being told it was DexIII I didnt bother since I trusted the person who told me.

I have seen this discussion but no other documentation to confirm it.

Here's a spot where I saw the Mopar fluid reported to be blue - green.

But you know what it's like with info posted on the internet.

Yes I currently have the D4 in there. When I changed the T case fluid at 18K I actually used Motul DexIII but at about 33k I pulled the trans to upgrade to a twin disc clutch. So once it was installed I refilled the trans with fresh MT90 and the D4 in the T case since Redline says its a DexIII replacement. I actually left the T case attached to my trans when we pulled it out so I didn't even have to drain the T case fluid but I already bought the D4 so I just changed it anyway. Chrysler actually says you are supposed to use ATF4 in the G56 trans but I have been using MT90 in it since about 500 miles. There is one thing I can tell you for sure the Mopar BW t case fluid isn't green or blue.

Because I have checked already.

That doesn't explain why.

Here's an example from my prior link from Amsoil.

Transfer Case,NV243......AP4
Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) (ATFQT)
OE Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

I am talking about a listing for the Borg warner 44,46 and 47. Not very other chrysler transfer case they made.

Well why do all these companies who offer fluids suitable for replacement for DexIII cut themselves out of sales opportunities if the application honestly calls for DexIII?

No clue. To add more confusion to the whole thing my owners manual says to put ATF4 in it.
