I didn't see this posted anywhere. Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders was killed in a plane crash in Washington state. Anders is the astronaut who took the famous "Earthrise" photo that appeared in many magazines and publications, and even on a postage stamp, as Apollo 8 orbited the Moon back in 1968.

He was flying a Beech T-34 doing aerobatics over the water when he crashed. He was 90.

 
I saw this in the news. I was deeply saddened.

It’s hard to tell what happened - spatial disorientation, G-LOC, flight control problem - who knows, but the crash is hard to watch no matter the cause.
 
Mercy!!! he almost made it... that was a nice T34... (I have the famous "Earthrise" photo hanging in the War Room)...

Note: Bill's photo is widely credited with propelling the global environmental movement and leading to the creation of Earth Day,
