ARX - a completely new question!

Finally broke down and ordered a couple bottles (with the $1 donation coupon) for my car - a 1993 Mazda 2.0L with 205k miles. My engine runs great and gets great MPG, but I thought I'd finally try it out as I plan on going to 250k or 300k with this car.

Since my sump is small, I only need 7oz per clean phase. I have postulated two "plans" as to how to use the two bottles (24oz) up...

PLAN 1:

Clean/Rinse phase 1: add 7oz ARX to current fill of PenzPlat 1500 miles before normal OCI (with filter change of course). Rinse with dino oil.
Clean/Rinse phase 2 & 3: normal clean and rinse (per instructions) with dino and 7oz ARX.

PLAN 2:
Clean/Rinse phase 1 & 2: normal clean and rinse (per instructions) with dino and 7oz ARX.
No phase 3, but use the additional ARX for a maintenance dose for the next 2-3 OCIs.

What might be better - 3 clean/rinse phases, or 2 plus 2-3 OCIs with the maintenance plan?

OCI history - from 82k-180k M1 at 4-5k, from 185k-present either PP or ML synthetic with 5k OCIs. I don't think the engine is dirty, I just want to try ARX finally and see what it can do for a car with this many miles. I have MPG data since 80k, so if there is a significant change I should hopefully be able to track it.

Well I like Plan 1 except for that you have PP in there. Go get some cheap dino and change it out when you're ready. If you want to wait 1500 miles until you are finished with your OCI, so be it.

Follow the directions.

Plan 1b:
Finish PP OCI
Fill with cheap dino and new cheap filter + 7 oz. A-Rx, drive 1500 miles
Rinse 2000 miles with cheap dino
Fill with cheap dino and new cheap filter + 7ox. A-Rx, drive 1500 miles
Rinse 2000 mile with cheap dino
Fill with preferenced oil and filter + 3oz A-Rx maintenance dose. Continue with normal OCIs.

Ditto that, except, maybe, the maintenance part. If you have an automatic transmission and/or power steering, then clean them too before considering maintenance.

Don't waste that cheap dino just yet. PP will work just fine, as will Rotella T Synth, per the recent test posted here by dbdeland and the arx website. Group III synth doesn't "count" as synth if the oil isn't supplimented with esters.

I'm just looking forward to finally using some of the dino I've got stashed ($.59/qt chevron and even cheaper pennzoil).

I'm thinking that two full clean/rinse treatments (w/ dino) and then 2-3 maintenance doses will be the way to go. I should still have enough to do the PS and possibly the gearbox.

Frank, if you've seen this thread - what do you think is a better way to use 21oz of Auto-Rx? Three clean/rinses or two plus maintenance? -thanks
