Anyone rent a car from Sixt ?

Their tagline is so dumb I can't imagine renting from them. Rent THE car. What does that even mean?

To go against the grain here, we had a great experience with Sixt in Germany back in May. We rented a VW T-ROC and it was practically new with only 4500KM on the odometer. The car was great, the price was reasonable and our rental experience was good.

The only negative that I can think of was that they were not at the airport in Frankfurt and didn't have a shuttle service but we managed to get around that.

We have rented from Sixt at DIA a couple of times. In fact we just got back from a three week trip. Haven’t had any notable issues. If you know the general rental agency tricks, you are good. We had rented a X5 online, and the agent at the desk was trying to upsell us at exorbitant prices to a X7M. Between that and overhearing another agent/customer conversation, I knew they were out of X5s. So I kindly declined and told them I’ll just take my X5. Then came the admission, followed by a free upgrade to a regular X7. The return was uneventful, and after a quick inspection and fuel check at drop off, we were cleared and sent an email stating all was good. The rates seem to very good for the cars on offer. I wasn’t going to drive a Chevy Malibu for 3,000 miles over.

No matter the agency, I would document the condition and mileage of the car with good photos at pick up and drop off.

Last 5 rentals were Sixt with most recent at OGG Maui Airport. VW Jetta was clean and enjoyed how it drove.

Yes..I am retired now, but in 2021 I was a service advisor at a Mercedes Benz dealership. I had reserved a Benz from Sixt in Indianapolis for a 10-day period as we were there for Indiana Sprint Week. When we arrived the attendant was super nice and helpful but said the car I wanted hadn't come back in yet. He asked if it was ok to put us in a brand new Jag. We accepted. It, too, had just come back in so he ran it through the wash really quick and sent us on our way.
Good experience!

I was in Arizona and rented a 2025 Toyota Rav4 from Budget rental agency. There were tons of people in Budget line to rent cars. It took an hour to finally get my rental and keys. Just as customer service hands me the keys she announces there’s no more rental cars available because not enough people have returned their rental. About 20 people behind me very upset and fuming.😠🤬

I noticed the Sixt car rental was pretty empty. I know they have more upscale vehicles.

Anybody rent from Sixt ?
Yes. In Europe. They rent nice cars but they are much more particular about “damage.” Last time I rented from them - a BMW sedan out of Brussels in July - on return they tried to charge me for a stone chip in the air dam. Not the first time I had that experience with them/. We rented an A6 wagon for a family trip in Italy and, two weeks after I returned it, they tried to charge me for additional cleaning of the interior. We are very fastidious about our cars, including rentals, and I thought this was inappropriate. We had our two teenage boys in the back but they didn’t dirty or damage anything. My experience is that a US rental car company would not carry on this way.

Rental cars in Europe are an experience, they look them over with a flashlight (no kidding).

It's getting like that in the US too, Hertz and Avis have installed AI scanners you drive through that look for damage. No way I'd rent a car without using a credit card that offers primary coverage for rental cars.
