Here is a report from Blackstone on my sisters 2007 Corolla. I change the oil for her once a year. She drives 14 miles each way to work on 4 lane hwy. The filter was an EaO15k09. Air filter is a Fram and needs to be changed.

I was wondering if I should go with a 5w-20. The oil cap shows to use 5w30 but I know Toyota has stated that older models can use the 5w-20. Thoughts?

Code:
There was some fuel and some silicon present in this first sample from your Toyota 1.8L engine, but

considering how low wear numbers are, we're hard-pressed to call either finding a problem. The silicon could be dirt

due to poor air filtration, but more likely it's from some sort of silicone sealer that was used. Fuel at a trace is probably

the result of operational factors like frequent starts, short trips, and the like. It's not causing any wear. The TBN of 2.4

shows active additive left in the oil since a reading of 1.0 is considered low. Try up to 12,000 miles next time.

This UOA looks very good to me for almost 11K.
Is AZO rated for 25K?....I wouldn't go nearly that far.
I have a 2008 Corolla and I've read that the chain beats up the oil so I stay at 5K OCIs...I may extend a little when using synthetics after seeing this report.

PS: I bought a Fram air filter at WM but returned it because I didn't think it fit snugly enough.

Nice report except for silicon reading, along with a trace of fuel reinforced with a lower flashpoint for AZO. Also questionable for AZO is the reported "8" for Moly and "17" for Boron. According to a VOA of AZO, Moly starts at 130 and Boron at 232. You might ask the lab to double check those.

Also check to be sure this engine is back spec'd for a 20 wt
before considering any changes.

Did excellent, i agree.

Definitely doesn't look like the AZO i did a VOA on.

It is the SSO, now that I think about it since I had it for a while before I changed her oil back in April of last year. So this next oil sample that I take next year will be the last of that batch.

Now it makes sense. Great results nonetheless. Could go a bit further if needed but 10k sounds pretty good to me.

Nice results. TBN might be an issue at some point, but one cannot refute the excellent low wear. I'd say 12-3k miles is doable; perhaps more. But assuming this is the last of the SSO, then you'll probably not know.

BTW - PM me if you want me to update the title to SSO.

Excellent BITOG service:

If your "low fuel warning light" comes on and the manual gives you an "estimated 50 miles" of driving left...

Do you drive it 45 miles and then start looking for a gas station?

Do you start looking for gas ASAP?

IMHO this 11K OCI shows as a proven and reasonable semi-extended OCI without resorting to additional filtration, etc.

Other than spending more $ to extend, te$t and rete$t, why not just accept the fact that the OP has found a very fine answer to what is truly not a very drastic problem: he's got a 5 year-old Corolla with under 60K miles and can change his oil & filter once a year and sure could be happy, secure and satisfied.

If he wants to be...

Cheers!

Considering the oil is no longer available I think the answer is of limited use.

Hopefully the new SSO will do as well.
