A guy who races at the local track and is a dealer runs the 5W30 diesel oil in his 57 Chevy, he seems to like it. I can't tell you how he thinks of it compared to SSO.

Depends what you are going to put your oil through... Each has its advantages... Both are excellent though!

I thought someone said all that extra good stuff in HDD is bad for catalytic converters. Any truth to this?

ZDDP is which most HD oils contain lots of but only if your engine is burning a lot of oil.

Red line is also very high in ZDDP.

I'm running it now. I'll have it in for a year. I might test it at one year to see if I can leave it in longer.

Doesn't matter what you order from Amsoil it's all good stuff. Some better than others but all superb in quality that will serve you well.

I've used HDD before in gas motors. I can't say if it did any better or worse than the SSO. Both are very different oils, but work very well.

The HDD will exhibit the thickening over its life, whereas the SSO is more balanced in that regard. I believe the HDD will put up with extreme shearing more than the SSO.
