Amsoil 0w-30 going in. Do I need any "prep"?

Got myself an Amsoil goodie box today. Part of my package is the Amsoil filter you see below, as well as 7 quarts of Signature 0w30 synthetic. When I was on Amsoil's site, I saw that they recommended that I use their engine flush before converting to their oil. Currently running Mobil1 conventional 5000 mile 10w30. Is this process really necessary? If so, is there anything else I should do to "prep" my engine for Amsoil synthetic?

Anyone simply converted over without going through any special procedure and gotten good results?

Personally, I just don't see how much good a 20 minute engine oil flush of any type is going to do for my engine. About 7 years ago, I even had a BG dealer tell me that particular engine flush was a bunch of [censored] that wouldn't do any good for my engine at all except to relieve strain on the engine by giving it less money to haul around with its owner.

However, Amsoil is a good company, with a good product, and may have a reason for saying what they are saying.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I have not heard about the Amsoil flush for a while now. If memory serves me correct you can use this as long you follow the instructions to a "T", I think this is not really a flush per say, the main function of the flush "removes" the oil leftover in the engine after you drain the oil. So once you are done you supposedly have 100% Amsoil in your engine. If I were to use Amsoil and this is me I would not bother with the flush. I am sure a Amsoil expert will chime in and give you more accurate info.

No prep necessary IMO. I've never done anything special when I ran Redline 0w30,dont see why it'd be any different with Amsoil 0w30.Personally,I dont believe the hype with engine flushes.

I switched from dino to syn to another brand of dino to another brand of syn, never did any flush and the LS400 engine is running smooth after 280+k miles.

Thanks. Going to do it the regular way tomorrow.

BTW, here's the pic, I forgot to post. Just realized that I picked up twice the Severe Gear than I actually needed. Oh well, got enough for the Mag-Hytec cover now.

Depending how bad the situation is. I did one fairly short interval with Mobil One in our CRV even though the top end was pretty clean. Now I'm following the OLM or every six months with Signature Series 5W20. I may try OE next. It comes to about 10K oci.

Probably no need to flush. How many miles on the engine? What year, make and engine? What oil before?

How long of OCI are you shooting for?

Did you sign up as a PC? If so, which dealer did you use?

I would use XL for 10k....

1998 Dodge Ram B3500 Van, 5.2 Magnum V8. Miles unknown, likely well over 100,000 miles. I have been running M1 Super 5000 in it for the past 1000 miles. God only knows what was in it before, but it couldn't have been good, because after I changed the oil, I picked up about 20-25 psi of oil pressure. Beyond that, only thing I can tell you is that the engine has great oil pressure now (35-40 psi @ idle, 65-70 psi @ 2200rpm+), has excellent power, never drinks or leaks its own oil, and doesn't like to drink very much gasoline either.

In a perfect world, I would like to get 15,000 miles out of this. Plan to UOA every 5k until it tells me to stop, so i can develop a baseline for future oil changes. The SSO bottle recommends this OCI for vehicles over 100k with no Amsoil usage history, and daily short trips. I slept on it and decided that I am going to do a UOA on the current oil to see where things are at before I change my oil. Knowing the engine's condition is better than guessing for me.

Haven't signed up yet, but I plan to get the job done today, because I will definitely be coming back to Amsoil for at least the ATF and power steering, and likely more.

Sounds like a good plan you have there. As for the flush i don't feel it to be necessary. I am switching everything i have over to Amsoil including my lawn equipment and haven't done a flush on either one yet. If the engine is sluged you may want to clean it out but otherwise you'll be fine.

Short background story:

I started with Amsoil when Al Amatuzio left Air Force and started the company (lifetime dealer with a 20.00 payment....)

Initially, I used all of their products on various OPE, Cars, Forestry machines (including diesel), Racing engines, you get the picture.

Over the last decade, lubricants have improved across the board as technology has also.

You don't need the flush and you in fact, don't need Amsoil, any modern synthetic will work just fine.

Amsoil Performance Improver! I also ordered it for our cars! Just got my amsoil package yesterday and already poured one bottle of the PI into our civic since its already half tank and going to fill up today.. Hoping to get some good results with the PI

There is no doubt about that. I'm certain pretty much any decent synthetic will keep my van on the road.

It just so happened that I went to the AAP to get synthetic 75/90 in order to follow a TSB recommending changing out the OEM 75/140 conventional oil (which is nasty, black, and smells like doody anyway) for 75/90 synthetic for extra fuel economy. I am not a fan of M1 gear oil. Won't get into it, because I don't want to start a fire. This was the only other 75/90 synthetic I could find in my area, so I turned to Amsoil for that reason, and the fact that 75/90 SG is a proven cut above anything else I could have gotten without turning to the internet.

While I was on the fluid topic, and the stuff was right in front of my face, I decided to pursue the synthetic conversion I had been planning anyway for some time. After being offered a significant discount, and a free bottle of PI, I decided to pull the trigger on the SSO, which also happens to be the only decent 0/30 I can find in my area anyway, and the only extended service 0/30 I can find in my area, period. I am not a fan of M1 for Chrysler Magnum engines either. There is an issue with M1 that keeps coming up in UOAs on Magnum V8s again and again.

Long story short, it was better than what I was even looking for, at less cost than the other available options, and it was right in front of my face, and came with a free bottle of PI.

I'll stay with Amsoil, so long as the local market stays the same.

Can't say for sure yet, but I have already gone an unusually long distance on the amount of fuel I put in the tank since running the PI. Engine is definitely running smoother, however.

Right now, I am running the M1 S5K through it, with MMO. Kreen is on the way, and that will be my real flush-out. Have a can of Mopar CCC ready to do ring soak before the oil gets changed. My intention is for this engine to be sparkling before the Amsoil goes in.

Also going in, is a heavy duty oil cooler and thermostatic adapter. I'm nearly at the point of just pulling the trigger on a bypass filter as well.

Well I changing my answer. After all that, you may as well do an Amsoil flush.

I still don't think your first OCI should be all that long. Unless you just do a couple 200 mile runs to get all that flush stuff out.
