Just as I suspected, the aluminum base plate doesn't slide very well across steel. I'll probably switch to a steel base plate, but I was wondering if any of you guys have exhibited the same issue with your circular saws. Ideally, the aluminum base plate would be sliding across lumber. I think the saw manufacturers know this.

What are you cutting?
Mild Steel. All kinds of widths and thicknesses. I go to a fabrication shop and swim around in their scrap bin.
We used to call it "dumpster diving" in the military. Whenever a tool goes missing, in the dumpster we go.

I use this on my aluminum Craftsman table saw. I use it on the fence too. Works for wood. Maybe it'll make steel slide better?
