Adapter to allow WiFi on 2015 Acer desktop?

What model computer does he have? There are lots of option for you:

1) USB wifi
2) Wifi "gaming adapter" that turns wifi signal to ethernet
3) Wifi access point / repeater that can run in client mode
4) Router than runs as a client mode.

Technically 2/3/4 are the same thing just different marketing and price. Same chips under the cover really, just different config.

He said it was a 2015 Acer desktop. Some of the Acer models were pretty bare bones so not having a WiFi adapter included does not shock me. My brother had one of those basic Acer systems in the past.
