I recently help my son buy his first truck it is a 2011 RAM 5.7 Hemi is calls for 5w20 on the cap and I found online it uses 7 quarts. I have read about and used several good oils I currently use Pennz ultra in my car, mobil in my suv and penzz platinum in my truck but my question is what are most people having the best success with in the hemi? I hear they are picky and have to use the 5w20 which I do want to use but what is the most popular oil being used by most? thanks

I personally use Red line 5w-20 in my 2014 5.7 1500. It's a little on the expensive side for 7 quarts but I tow often and drive like a depraved idiot with a sincere death wish when I'm not towing.

I applaud the use of Redline oil but i am curious as to why anyone would drive "with a sincere death wish". Seems to me the object is to arrive safely somewhere without harming yourself or others!

Redline Is a fantastic oil but you won't be doing any extended drains on it since it's geared more to anti wear than detergents.

Pennzoil Ultra is tops in my book if you can find it.

Dave,

Relax, man. The modern new gen Hemi is very easy on oil other than a bit of fuel dilution if tuned. Run any name brand synth and a decent filter and the engine will outlast the truck!

Seriously, these are not hard on oil...

+1 Pick your poison.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I went to town and picked up Some Pennzoil Ultra for it and a jug for my Mazda3 and two pure one filters. I happened to notice while I was getting the filters they now carry a Purolator synthetic series filter for about 5 bucks more don't know if its worth it or not I sure like the pure 1 it seems to do a great job on the Mazda. Thanks for all the input everyone.

A synthetic filter is a worthwhile upgrade over a synthetic blend filter. Synthetic media can filter finer particles, and still have less pressure drop than cellulose blend media. I would trade in the PurOne filter for a Purolator synthetic. By the way, where did you see the Pur synthetic filter? I haven't seen any of those up here in Michigan.
