Ok, so on my 2023 CX-5 with about 4,200 mi on the clock, I changed my own oil back in April of this year with Mobil 1 5w30 Advanced (I live in southwestern corner of Tennessee with over 100 degree temps in the summer). I mostly do 20 mile round trips a few times a week, so as of today I drove exactly 505 miles on that oil. It looks new on the dipstick and hardly smells like gasoline. I've already created a thread about being threatened to lose factory warranty if I don't visit my local dealer for oil changes every 6 months and now I have anxiety every time I think about oil and how often I should change it to avoid issues. I think I am already in trouble by using 5w30 vs 0w20 (God forbid my dealer finds out) but after seeing how much of 0w20 was burned by my engine last summer, I am not using 0w20 anymore.

I am approaching 6 months on my oil and according to my dealer - I must change it. I only have one Mazda dealer in my city, so I am stuck with them for any work. And yes, I document everything but I feel like my documentation is only working against me because 1) I am NOT changing it often enough and 2) I am not putting 0w20.

So, the question of the day is - am I OK to keep it for another 6 months? I kept my previous Mazda fill for a year / 1,500 mi and when I was draining it, it looked like new oil and I felt bad draining it.

There's no way they can possibly do that. They should not be harassing you into making you pay them whatever they want to warranty your car and threating you with loss of warranty if you don't go over there to get robbed. Where does it say you must use 0w-30.

My sister runs 0w-20 in the winter and 5w-30 in the summer for road trips (in hopes of mitigating oil usage in her CX-5). For what it's worth, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 has a relatively low operating temperature viscosity for a 30 grade (last I checked). It's a good value as well. But that could be considered splitting hairs.

Read your owns manual unless it has changed since 2022 it is one year or 7500 miles. My 2022 is slipping up on one year here in about six days. It will have close to 5000 miles on it. But I'm going to change before the rain hits here on the Wetside. It will be my first OCI at 81.

Manual states yearly by time, not 6 months so you should bring that up to them and see what they try to retort with.

I did just change to 5w-30 in mine now that the second engine warranty has passed. I never burned oil but seat of the pants feel, it does seem to make things smoother and quieter.
