Currently have this 2025 Camry as a rental, I normally wouldn't bother with a post about a Camry but this is a heavily updated version of the previous generation new for 2025 and now has an all hybrid powertrain offering. I like the looks of it, and it probably has one of the best looking front ends to come out of Toyota in a long time. I liked the color and the look of the black wheels.

The good - Being a hybrid, fuel economy is exceptional. I didn't do any official calculations, but it hasn't seemed to use much gas. Power is adequate for a mundane sedan, it rides well and I liked the steering feel. The seats were also firm and comfortable. Wireless Android Auto and Car Play were onboard and worked just fine. The car is also easy to drive, I felt confident plowing it through tight openings in city traffic feeling like I had a good idea of where all four corners of the car were. Also liked the climate control setup.

The bad - I couldn't find a comfortable seating position. If I raised the seat up, the tilt steering wheel didn't have enough up and down travel (it only moved 2") to get the steering wheel out of my lap so I felt like I was sitting on the floor with my legs extended straight out. For a midsize, it felt a bit cramped inside and for the front passenger, the dash has an odd protrusion that really cuts into knee room. The powertrain makes a ton of odd noises and vibrations as it switches from EV to gas and regen. There are two red lights in the instrument cluster LCD that indicate when the brake lights are on, and they were constantly switching on anytime the car went into regen, so if you see someone in a new Camry they probably aren't riding the brake, it's the car doing it. All the engine did was shutdown and restart your entire drive. The infotainment screen has nice resolution but is way too small for a newly redesigned car. There was also no handsfree way to unlock the car, so you had to fish the fob out of your pocket - it also had terrible range you had to be within 10' of the car for it to work.

Bottom line - It's not a car for anyone that enjoys driving and I can't wait to give it back, it's a soulless appliance. I find it funny they offer this sporty SE trim which is anything but sporty.

Dash materials look good, less glary than my 09. Some piano black plastic there though that won't stay clean/ age well.

Actual instrument cluster looks like something out of a Versa, I hate the "glass cockpit" vibe it gives off. Though at least there's a temp gauge, which my Prii lack.

I suspect your key fob situation is a stripped down rental special function. Even my base (SE) Prius has auto proximity unlock for the driver's door.

Really ugly car, imo. You can tell it - and many others - are forced into the same basic body shape due to all the safety features (requirements?) vehicles have these days. But it's a Camry so I guess reliability should be good, if that's someones biggest requirement. Reliability is pretty important to me too, but I just could not live with driving something that looks that bad. JMO of course.

Those rims seem have very low profile tires.
Not a comfortable ride.

This gen Camry could be my next ride. We will see.

You remember the Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy, when he threw the tree branch in front of the rollerblader? That was you. I was riding the rollerblades!

Not really relevant these days IMO. Those are 18” wheels. My Genesis has 19” and it rides incredible. Though it is a much different class of car than a Camry.

Some of my complaints like the small infotainment screen and lack of handsfree entry can be fixed on higher trim levels, but the seating position, cramped interior and oddball powertrain would be a dealbreaker for me and would apply across all trims. I'm stopped at a light and all of a sudden the engine starts and sounds like it's at 1800 RPM, weird stuff like that would drive me crazy.

My base model Camry didn’t have anything either. Key out of pocket to lock or unlock unless you press the button on the door card inside.

I think it’s like software engineers like to say- “that’s not a bug, that’s a feature!” 😡

Hmmm, might hold on to our '23 SE non-hybrid. That switching on and off would drive me bonkers. I can get the mileage in the 40's no problem.

That brake light indication thing in the dash seems to be a new Toyota thing. My '24 Tacoma has that and it is the dumbest thing...

"Fun" thing to note, the '25 Camry specifies 0w8 oil for anybody curious.

For anyone familiar with Toyota's hybrids, the random starts and other behavior is normal. The payoff is incredible efficiency and reliability....and Toyota just keeps making them better.
It isn't the most exciting car in the world, but it sure is a reliable appliance. Comfy too. I love 'em
