This is the second full interval with the new M1 ESP Formula 0w40 with about the same mileage and duration, but less track time (5 hours this OCI versus 10 on previous OCI). The OLM read 30% when the oil was changed out. Some of these track outings were in ambient temps of 90-100 F, and the PDR data indicated oil temps as high as 275 F. Blackstone said things look good and the motor is handling the hard driving fine. They did highlight that the viscosity was a bit out of grade for a 40 but said the same thing last time. I'm still undecided if I will continue with this oil after this OCI. Chevy recommends 15w50 for track use, and there are a number of stout 0w40s out there like 300V, RL, or RLI that can be had for roughly the same price. This was a slightly shorter run that did improve TBN, wear metals, and viscosity, but TAN still rose due to the increased short tripping. Discuss. Obligatory COTA shots below...including one at night. cool

You are pushing the Vette hard and she is looking pretty good if not great. It is nice to see you enjoying the Vette.

M1 ESP 0w40 is a thin 40 grade to start with, at 12.9 cSt hot when new. The oil at the end of the OCI, being 11.44 cSt hot, did thin out, but not by very much. Given the usage, that seems decent. And the UOA shows iron trending down nicely. However, you, being in Texas, and tracking the car, and seeing peak oil temps of 275*f, might want to consider something thicker. When I raced, M1 15w50 Red Cap was the go to oil.

Nice Vette. I find it strange how GM calls for 0W20 in most of their other mass produced V8's, but calls for a heavy weight oil in the Vette. Seriously makes me wonder if I should at least up my oil to a 5W30 instead of the 0W20.

Nice car!! As already mentioned I think the oil did fine, especially considering how the car was used. I know this is Bitog, but I'm not sure if I would be hunting for the perfect oil, you may already have it.

Hey nice Vette op! Look at those rotors glowing red! Looks like Mobil 0w40 is a pretty Stout oil. Is it a Zo6 or Grand sport?

I would almost bet the reason for heavier weight oil is because of much less airflow thru the front end. I would think if you put a truck sized radiator and coolers on a Corvette along with a truck sized grill you could get away with much thinner oil. But I'm no engineer....

Yep, Grand Sport.

I don't. These were part of a photo package I bought, but I did get the full-res JPGs.

Wear numbers look good, but if you want to lift the viscosity a little just add 2 or 3 qt's of M1 0/50 racing oil. Big shot of moly with a higher dose of ZDDP, calcium, Boron. Even has a TBN of 8 Rod
