Engine- 94 351 Windsor 125,665
Oil- 5w30 Supertech with maybe 1/2 quart of 5w30 Carquest. This was a Auto RX rinse cycle.
Miles on oil- 2845
Filter- Motorcraft FL-820S
Truck- 94 Ford F-150 Supercab 4 by 4 Automatic
All other not listed were O

Aluminum-1
Chromium-0
Copper-3
Lead-27
Tin-4
Moly-91
Nickel-1
Potassium-1
Boron-3
Silicon-8
Sodium-29 I started with a Supertech oil filter that was crossed with the Motorcraft. Well the supertech filter did not seat correctly and I had a oil leak. I went down to the ford garage and purchased the better motorcraft filter and had to replace and bit of oil and that was the Carquest oil. That is were the Sodium is coming from in my opinion.

I did run a one time treatment of STP fuel and combustion chamber cleaner in the gas. The ingredients said it was composed of part Jet Fuel. I wonder if this was the cause of high lead. The truck is driven in the mountains and did see some hauling but silicon is low and the other wear metals are low. Could this engine need a higher viscosity oil or was the fuel system treatment the root cause of the high lead. Before I got this report I had changed oil to RTS 5w-40 thinking that would be a good match. The engine hated it on start up. Something in the top end like the rocker arms or connecting rods rattled for a few seconds. I dumped the oil and went with 5w-20 Quaker State peak performance. No more start up rattle. I did not have any with the 5w30 either. This motor is back dated for 5w-20 but again it was put in before this report came back to me. What do you all think. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to find out what has increased the lead. The STP could have increased the lead with the kerosense base. Any other ideas from others why lead would be high. Hoping to have some good input.

My Townie really loved the M1 0w40 for the last two OCI's. Perhaps try that for the next run?

I've currently got the M1 TDT 5w40 in it right now.... Donaldson filter. No startup noise (but then, it's never had any) and it seems to be doing some cleaning. Oil is quite dark already......

Yeah...the lead is hopefully a part of the 'junk' being washed out of the engine with the rinse phase...no way to tell if it is really wear until you do a run w/o any additives.

It baffles me that Ford would back-spec a big, old-school engine, used in HD applications, for 5W-20. I understand it for the OHC V-8's, but an OHV 5.8 V-8....I'd run a 0W-40 if I got a rattle w/the 5W-40.....

Why would you not run a uoa. You need to start trending. No one has really answered my question of what could have caused the high lead. More smart [censored] remarks than anything. I think I am done with this board. Bye.

Maybe the lead is because of bearing wear? Just throwing out an idea.

Well, I'm not poking you with a stick - I promise ..but you don't know what your lead was to begin with, do you? Do you have another UOA? I couldn't find it in your posts.

If it retreats with subsequent UOA, then you still won't necessarily know where it came from, but you'll know that it's going away. Most UOA that I've looked at that were involved with Auto-Rx were transparent on the Blackstone tests. With Dyson's tests you can see increases in combustion efficiency and whatnot (Terry can, anyway).

Lead/Pb strikes more fear than any other element. Even if Fe is relatively high and sustained over many UOA ..one blip on Pb and you're sweating bullets. I'm not exempt from that feeling either
