So, as the winter is almost here getting a convertible is a logical thing to do, right? :)

This is a 1992 XR3i with 1.8 litre RQB Zetec engine with 130 hp and 130k miles on the clock. With weight of about 1200 kg this is enough.

Nothing much to do, just the normal route of
- wheels
- tyres
- brakes
- suspension
- std. maintenance
- etc.
-

Allegedly timing kit and clutch have been done few years ago.

We'll be doing some service on Thursday: oil, filters, plugs and wires etc. After that it will hibernate in my garage.

That is cool! I don't think that model of Ford was ever offered in the US market.

No, the Escort we got was less exciting.....make that a truly awful econobox, except the EXP. No, wait, that was too!

The US versions were cars of their times here, and it was not a good time for cars.
the word HORRIFYING comes to mind.. for the 81-90 US Escort/EXP.. oil leaks? CHECK.. slow as molasses acceleration? CHECK Unreliable ignition? CHECK! Engines that need rebuilding early in its life? CHECK And then people wonder how the Japanese succeeded? They were light years ahead in terms of reliability, even if they weren't (they were, just for the sake of argument) it didn't take much to be better than the Escort/Exp.. sheesh.. No wonder Ford had Mazda make the newer Escort in 1991!

Europe always gets the cool stuff.
Yup.. just like Japan keeping all the cool stuff to themselves!!

Just never understood how Ford and GM built such trash here in the USA when their European divisions built much better stylized and better performing vehicles in most cases.
Even this 1992 Xr3i that's in this post looks light years beyond anything Ford had over here. I think decisions to dump the junk in the US market is what made the Japanese more successful here in the US. Consumers had a choice for something that the rest of the world already had.

Talking about this 92 Xr3i, helped me remember the Escort Cosworth beast that they had in Europe or maybe it was just Britain? Man.. that thing was awesome!
