10w30 HDEO or 15w40, others. What's in your engine?

Before I hack another used filter open; thought I'd ask what you diesel vehicle owners are using for HDEO oil. My friends with the f250 and ram 2500 truck run 10w30 rotella or HK All Fleet 10w30 HDEO

The only diesal engine I own is in our Kubota l3560.I have put in Mobil delvac 10w30 extreme synthetic.I will run that till spring then back to a synthetic 15w40 of some kind in May.

I'm back to using Mobil Delvac Super 1300 in my semi truck with a Detroit Series 60 motor. Presently I have 15W40 in the sump, but I'll be switching over to 10W30 in a week or two. I use the 10W30 during the winter months for easier cold startups. I'll switch back over to 15W40 in late March or early April.

On a current OCI of Delo HD30WT in my 05 6.0 and love it. Truck seems to really like it as well. Prior flavors were T5 10W30 and Motorcraft 10W30. Since using 10W30 in my 6.0 a few years ago I've learned to love it over any other weight.

I use Schaeffer Synshield syn blend 10w30 in winter and 15w40 in summer in my Detroit 60 12.7L pre-emissions. 1,046,230 miles and still going strong. Uses approximately 1 qt per 11-12,000 miles. Oil changes at around 22,000 miles... almost 50% longer than the OEM recommended drain of 15,000 miles. Standard Donaldson oil filters.

I like Rotella T6 5W-40. I've used it in most my diesel vehicles over the last 10 years or so. 04 Jetta TDI, 09 Dodge Cummins and my 04 6.0 Powerstroke. I've even used it in my Can-Am side-by-side, which isn't a diesel though. My 6.0 has some sticky injectors so I also use Archoil.

2019 Ford 6.7 Spec'ed for 10-30 Motocraft that's what I'll use until warranty is up

Shell Rimula R4X 15W-40 in my 1988 Escort XR3i

It's an API SL/CI-4 , ACEA E7 oil

Factory spec'd viscosity is 10W-40

I use it because the Ford CVH engine is notorious for valvetrain wear, it's a flat tappet engine where the lifters ride on top of the cam just like on a pushrod engine, but the lifters push directly on the rocker arms.

Around 1200ppm of ZDDP should keep it happy and it so far has for the past 9000 miles since i bought it.

Rotella T6 15-40 in my 18' 6.7 CTD. 20 degrees F is a record temp for us.
Thinking about swapping to Delo XSP 5-40 but haven't found any details about it.

Looks good to me - its usually around $19/gallon at Walmart....about the same as the Rotella T6 5W-40 (which IMHO is a better oil than the Rotella T6 15W-40).

Why do you think that the 5w40 is better than the 15w40? I would think it ultimately depends on the application but I would have thought that the 15w40 was better. Not arguing, just curious.

I agree - the 15W-40 should really be 'better' - but looking at the VOA sheets; less of everything, and a 'low' TBN....

Even their own semi-syn T5 15W-40 seems better....

Pentosin Long Life lll 5w-30 (507.00 approved) with a VW filter in my 2013 VW Golf TDI. Before that was the Castrol SLX professional the dealer uses. Can't really tell a difference between the two. It'll be interesting to see if it burns any of the Pentosin, it didn't burn any of the Castrol over it's last 10K mile change. The Pentosin is ~$10 cheaper for 5 qts.

Ram in sig: 15w40 currently, 5w40 and 15w40 on standby. No mention of any other oil in the manual, not that I need any options, this is what I'd run anyway.
