Hi All,
Below are images of the oil filter I buy regularly from my Nissan Dealer, it's used on my 370Z. I wanted to see what quality the filter was that I am paying about 8.00 for. One item of note is I used several HDD Neo magnets on the outside of the can to trap any ferrous material. I had 5 Neo magnets on the outside of the can, and the last photo shows how much metal each magnet grabbed. This filter was working with Mobil1 Extended Performance, I don't beat the car, launch or drag strip or track it, just a DD. This oil was removed at 3700 miles just as the factory states (even though it could have gone up to 10K...I know). I purposely changed the oil before it got dirty just to see how much metal was being trapped. I'm back to 5W30 PYB, what was I thinking...!
I thought you all would like to see the inside of a Nissan Filter. Enjoy!

For an $8 OEM filter I'd say that looks pretty solid. Nissan is not going to put their name on an inferior filter.

Yeah, I was pleased to see how well it was built and no tears, no voids in the filter element.
In about 2 weeks my 5yr 60K warranty runs out anyway, so after that I may or may not keep using the Nissan Filter.
Minor PS: When I first bought the car and asked the service manager for Ester Oil as recommended, he told me flat out they use Mobil 1 in the 370Z and that the Ester Oil was a waste of money. I agree.

I agree it looks good. Thanks for taking the time to cut up, take photos and then post for the benefit of us BITOGer's. I am running right now a Nissan OEM filter in a 2011 Infiniti EX and have had some concerns about doing so due to posts on some other websites saying that Nissan filters use cardboard end caps and look like rebadged Frams. The OEM Nissan filter for VQ35HR engine is really tiny. It would be great if someone could cut that filter up and post photos. I hope that small filter for the VQ35HR application is as well built as your's.

This one is tiny too, I should have put a scale on it for size, probably 3 to 3.25 inches across the top.

Thanks for the pics. I'm running the same one of my 11 Altima and I'm about 3600 miles into an OCI with PU 5w30. They're made by Gonher in Mexico now and look a lot better than the old China-made filters they used to use. I feel more confident running the new ones.

that little silver outline is metal trapped by the magnet. (last picture) shaped like a boomerang

Magnet from an old hard drive?

Yeah, I have quite a few.....don't throw a hard drive away...destroy it. So glad to see SSD now.

Yeah I remember the old PH8! Smallest filter I've ever seen is on a John Deer Lawnmower. About the size of a pill bottle. Cute as it can be.

I would spend a couple bucks more for Pennzoil syn-blend. I think PYB is $15.xx for 5-qt jug at Walmat and syn-blend is $17.xx.

Looks better than the recent OE service Chinese junk genuine NISSAN ones used on the passenger cars, I went to get a Nissan filter for my FIT since its same mechanical spec as Honda, but the thing looked like junk, so I left the parts counter empty handed. This unit looks better. Does the Z use same baseplate as a sentra or Altima? Does it have a P- gasket? Otherwise, Id go the WIX in my sig below.

Yes, they stay on very well. I wouldn't put on on the inside end of my drain plug, but they stay on the oil filter body very well. I've used the same ones for years.

Hi Arco,

I don't know if the plates are the same for Sentra/Altima, sorry.

Around 2000, Nissan decided to use this size filter on all their gasoline engines, and some used this filter as far back as 1995.
