Tiller my grandparents garden with the 3 point tiller and did their neighbors too while I was there. Her little craftsman rider was giving her problems and determined the rubber flapper in the fuel cap fell apart and contaminated the fuel system. They had another rider with the same tank so I...

Not much progress on the little Mack the last few days. I’ve been covered up with dump truck work and we are migrating to a new CMMS system at work and one other guy plus myself are running the show. I got the new tires mounted on the refinished wheels this week and back on the truck today. My...

    International Traton S13 driveline

Hopefully this puts IH back on the map as an engine manufacturer. The MaxxForce engines among the other smaller displacement engines pretty much ruined their reputation. They used a page out of Volvo's playbook on the rear gearing and cruise rpms(called downspeeding). It's a proven method as...

What are you working on today?

Stripped more of the automatic grease system off the little Mack. Seems like there’s miles of nylon tubing. None of it works and the tubing is rotten so I’m just putting regular old grease zerks back in and greasing with Schaeffer 219 as I go. Everything is really dry. Also removed most of the...

    Fluid recommendation for Allison HT740

I know it has spent much of the last 17 or so years sitting, enough that the wheel hubs drew enough moisture to rust the bearings up pretty good. I’d feel much better if it was changed with what I’m seeing elsewhere. Fluid is cheaper than a transmission R&R. A long day is 250-300 miles on the...

What are you working on today?

Spread 2 loads of fertilizer this morning and need to do a third but the plant closed for the weekend. Medical lift assist early this afternoon with an airlift to follow. Finished putting the hubs back on the little Mack. Wheel bearings were contaminated with lots of rust. Replaced all front...

    M1 vs Kirkland!

    Virtually no difference.

    Fluid recommendation for Allison HT740

I recently purchased this ex-USPS Mack tractor. There has been no maintenance done since 2007ish as far as I can tell. I want to do a service(maybe a couple) on the transmission. There's no current indication of a problem. What would you recommend? It currently has something red in it that...

1997 Mack MR688P Showing around 450,000 miles but odometer doesn't work. Hour meter has a little over 2000 hours but who knows if it's rolled over multiple times. Out: no idea on oil, removed two Spinner II brand reusable filters. In: 8.5 gallons SuperTech 15w40 and 2 Mack 21939298 filters...

    Spinner II 60SE service

For anyone wondering, here is what a “service kit” looks like. I’m not paying $16 for two O rings and a piece of paper. I will size the O rings and get some spares from my local hydraulic shop next time it’s apart. It’s really easy to teardown and reassemble.

    Spinner II 60SE service

Here are some photos of my first time cleaning a Spinner 2(first time I’ve actually seen one). I recently bought this truck and it hasn’t seen any PM work in years. I’m slowly working though it. I didn’t have the kit for it so I reused the O rings and didn’t worry about the little paper liner...

Any lawn experts? Suggestions for planting grass in northern KY.

I'll add another vote for turf type tall fescue. I think it'll work fine for you. Plus I work for one of the largest fescue suppliers in the country so your purchases are appreciated.

Is there an oil that's better for long time based changes?

This^^^^^ X1000. I've seen it a bunch. That part number is probably correct from whatever that filter manufacturer is.

Sorted and worked calves this morning and then went and picked up this Ray-Man Floater Loader. This will be used to load my lime truck either straight out of a dump truck or with our skidsteer from a stockpile. It was cheaper than buying an articulated loader with enough reach to easily load the...

Had another 8 hours of fire training today. We focused heavily on hose line management, nozzle control, flowing water, etc. It was fun but man I’m sore tonight. Scored a little cabover Mack truck like I’ve been wanting on Thursday. Hopefully I did okay on it, I bought it sight unseen(other...

    2016 Ford F250 6.2L 186k mi; Schaeffer 5w30 6.4k mi (174 hrs)

Yes, more towing and I’m primarily using it to respond to fire calls. There’s been several cold starts where I absolutely stood on it as soon as I hit pavement. Lots of idling too.
