What air pressure for new tires

Still waiting for somebody to explain...from an engineering view...why they think my E rated tires are under inflated WITHOUT a chart saying so. I will remind you folks that I drive for a living. I am approaching 2 million incident/accident free miles in an 18 wheeler alone...not counting my...

A tire failure? Explain how from an engineering standpoint it would cause a tire failure. Something I've been doing for 25 years with this truck and others I've owned...that has never caused an issue for me or anybody around me is "incorrect"? A man isn't "just lucky" for 25 years. I have well...

What air pressure for new tires

I'll be abundantly clear then, too. You do you...and I'll do me...and every body lives in harmony.

What air pressure for new tires

Yeah, my truck isn't "supposed" to run over 99mph, but it does. My truck isn't "supposed" to haul a 1 ton load in the bed, but it does. My truck isn't supposed to tow over 5000lbs, but it does. You aren't supposed to use a screw driver as a prying tool or chisel...but people do it all the time...

What air pressure for new tires

I run 10 ply tires because I use my truck AS a truck. I haul things...sometimes heavy things. I pull trailers...sometimes heavy trailers. I go offroad fairly often. I have even drag raced it. But it's still my daily driver. I run 285/75's because of added ground clearance...I also have a 3"...

What air pressure for new tires

In my experience, any time I've tried to run 40psi or above with the E rated tires, they began to dish in the middle of the tread like any tire would do when they're over-inflated. @35 psi, the treadwear is nice and level across the tread width. I'm averaging 70K+ miles per set running them...

What air pressure for new tires

Not in my experience. I run 285/75 load E tires on my ½ ton Silverado. The factory tire was a 265/75 SL rated. Placard calls for 35psi cold. That's exactly where I run the E rated tires too. I get the best ride, handling and wear from them. The tire shop that mounted the very 1st set I ran had...

Not according to Michelin. The automotive manufacturer door pillar placard is the gospel regardless. From Michelin's website:

I am considering the Dark Side. Quick Oil Change shops.

It's not all about what they "do". It has more than anything to do with convenience. I still talk regularly to the guy who owns/operates the last shop I worked in some 16 years ago. He recently showed me the invoice for HIS cost of 5W30 and 5W20 bulk oil. It is astronomical compared to what it...

Rolling Route 66 Virtual Car Show

Mods, you can delete if this isn't allowed. This may or may not be a long shot. Not sure if you folks knew this was a thing or not. I didn't until recently and I figured I'd try my luck with it. If you could/would, please take a few seconds to vote for my car. I'd appreciate it. Thank you in...

cleaning a gas can to use diesel fuel?

Whatever I drain off the truck at the terminal goes into the same container as the transmix. Certain common carrier tanker companies are paid to haul this product from the loading terminal to refining facilities set up to refine and reclaim the product so there's very little waste. You're...

Top Tier gas unavailable at Kwik Trip - what additive to use instead?

It all depends on the loading terminal. Some terminals such as Kinder-Morgan, the ethanol is added 1st, then the CBOB is added behind it. However, next door at TransMontaigne, the ethanol is "splash blended", meaning the plumbing at the loading rack has injectors that add ethanol in tiny...

cleaning a gas can to use diesel fuel?

I can confirm this is common practice. We haul diesel in the very compartments that had gas in them the pervious load and vise versa. Depending on the terrain at the previous unloading area where the tanker is not level, we may retain anywhere from barely residue up to several gallons. If I...

    Credit where due! Walmart delivers.

So here's my very recent experience with Walmart. Ordered 2 tires thru Walmart marketplace (3rd party merchant). The tires were a really good deal. We had just replaced the 2 rear tires a few weeks prior. I just had these tires shipped to Walmart so I'd get WM to install them and be on my way...

    Trooper recommends dash cameras

I just installed a dash cam in my semi a month ago. I've already reported and shown footage of 2 drivers brake checking me in that short time frame. Both were tracked down by their license plates and cited for aggressive driving...which is a serious offense in my state. Why anybody would brake...

    Engine suddenly consuming oil

Give it a few days/weeks with the new PCV valve in place. Did you happen to use a fixed orifice PCV? They were designed for certain LS GM engines that were experiencing oil consumption and had success with it. I've recommended and used them for several old school hotrod engines that were using...

Tires: where do you folks buy them?

Walmart Marketplace has been my go-to for the last 4 sets of tires I've bought. They almost always come from a 3rd party such as Discount Tire or NTB. I haven't found anybody else that beat the price at the time of purchase.

    Aftermarket hood struts/shocks?

Put a pair on my dad's '06 Ram...the hood on that thing is a beast. Bought them off Rock Auto for dirt cheap. Been holding up great for nearly 2 years now.
