Spitix, MTF meets that spec. I checked before I installed it, so far it has actually improved the shifting over the orginal fluid which to be fair had been in there for 96K. The MTF is friction modified. Thans for the comment I will keep an eye on it.

Pablo, Thanks for the info I just changed the gearbox with MTF and it shift much better.

Owners manual (GMC 2000 4 cylinder 5sp manual)calls for GM# 12377916 friction modified. I considering Penn synchromesh fluid as a subsitute, but upon reading the lable it is only suitable as a replacement for GM# 12345349 and # 12345577 not the fluid called out in my manual. Any recommendations?

I have same generator and I use Mobil 1 ep 10/30. My unit is used on the boat in the heat of summer and it will not support an air conditioner. It uses inverter technology and an alternator.

Lambs wool is really for professions and could damage the paint if too much pressure or speed. Foam is much safer and runs cooler if used properly

Back out the plug about 1/2 way and wrap the threads with teflon tape till you get a little build up then retighten the plug. It will stop the leak until the next oil change.

So we are all in agreement that it is OK to ignore the motor manufacturer's recommended oil and exceed the vis recommendations. Is the OK only when subsituting Syn oil where there is limited vis improvers?

I have a question. I know your Fords must call for either 5-30 0r 5-20 and most of your small motors probably call for 5-30, 10-30 or 30. Do you have any concerns going to a 5-40 for everything?

Thanks for the replys, but interest is strickly small and portable. 50 lbs max weight which limits it to 1000-2000 watts. I am also thinging inverter style to keep the noise down. I believe my decision is between the 2000 Honda and the 1700 Robin units.

I have a boat with twin engines and I use 15/40 Rotella in the recently rebuilt engine and 40wt Rotella in the older engine because it has lower oil pressure. Both are basic 350cu GM blocks. They also make a 30wt Rotella. The oil has served me well for a number of years.

In the outlet passage of a ford 820s filter there is a coiled spring which I assume is some type of valve. The bosch equalivent does not have the spring, neither does a fram filter equal (which I would never use anyway). It is used in a 2002 v6 ford 4.0liter. Now how can those other filters...
