How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

It’s a five hour drive for me. I’ll need to see a photo of the underside with it on a rack before I decide to go. Rocker rust doesn’t bother me but structural rot is (obviously) a deal breaker.

How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

This is the one I really want but it’s a good 10 hours away and at least $1000 overpriced. https://www.jnmautogroup.com/details/used-2013-mazda-mazda5/101802553 Before I made the drive I would ask for a photo of the underside with it on a rack.

You guessed it. It’s a manual Mazda 5.

How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

I’m hesitant to tell the make/model because I don’t want to know how far someone would go for this particular car. I’m interested to know how far you would go to see a car you might like to own. IMO that’s different than how far one might drive to see a car they would LOVE to own, because I...

    How far is “far?”

How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

The Carfax says the clutch was replaced at 71K which seems way early to me, but that might just be a really bad case of falling for the upsell.

How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

If they were interested in my potential trade I would drive it. If not I would drive my truck and rent a UHaul trailer or dolly locally.

How far would you drive on a gamble for a used car?

I’m looking at a $5000 car online. 2008 model, 114k miles. I’m withholding any further details for the sake of discussion. The photos all look good but it’s listed on the dealer’s website as “not inspected, sold as-is.” I’m interested in this particular vehicle because it is a somewhat uncommon...

Finally scratched my watch itch this morning

I have a real love for watches with tritium tubes on the hands and markers. I sleep with a watch because without my glasses it’s hard to read the clock on the nightstand. With a tritium watch I can always tell the time even in complete darkness. About a month ago I bought an Aragon tritium...

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

True. I just want to get one more good conventional ICE only vehicle before all the new mandates make them impossible to find. One good one might just last the rest of my driving days.

I have the exact same watch but in titanium.

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

It’s the turbo that bothers me most. I’m afraid it would spontaneously disable itself at high velocity. I admit it, I am a Luddite.

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

The Escape has a turbo and start/stop, neither of which I want. GM is dead to me after the bailout. I guess a compromise is inevitable.

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

I totally agree, but I'll still always want to keep a sedan around. Having a separate, locking trunk where people can't see your stuff is a major advantage of a sedan for me. When I go to the shooting range it's in my car because I can lock my guns out of sight in the trunk in case I want to...

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

The thought had crossed my mind. Right now the choice seems to be between a Japanese CX-5 AWD and a Canadian RAV4 FWD. The CX-5 has the same 2.5 Skyactiv engine as my Mazda6 (which I like) but the Toyota has port + direct injection which might be better for long term reliability. I’m guessing...

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

Sorry, forgot to add I’m allergic to turbochargers on anything except big tractor diesels.

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

I wouldn’t have thought about a RAV. There’s a Canadian FWD base trim at a nearby dealer. It’s not 100% what I specified but my two Canadian Toyotas were both completely reliable and trouble-free so it’s now on my list. Thanks!

I already have a nice sedan.

Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

It is. A CX-5 is probably what I will end up with if there’s no FWD option.
