    Edge 0w30 thicker than 5w30

Wow, that Edge 0w-30 is great with a 3.5 hths and 8% noak. I wish I could buy it, but too hard to find.

Does Maxlife swell seals? Or condition?

Even non-high mileage oils might list seal-conditioning abilities. Any seal conditioning agent in oils today is very safe. Imagine your seals as a wall of atoms, anything is just going to cling to that layer and form a better barrier to keep other larger atoms from moving out of that membrane...

Why would Castrol Magnatec 5w20 say this....

Seems normal to me. I agree, probably to raise sales. Unless it's super cold, no need for it.

    10w30 or 5w30 1998 Jaguar XJ8

That makes no sense. You want the most free-flowing oil at startup. The most wear occurs on startup, so you want the least viscous oil available. 5w-30 should be put in the car.

What motor oil should I use?

Oil life indicators usually measure fuel dilution in the oil. The quick-lube place is going to charge you way too much for any oil change, much more for Synthetic and they spec whomever won their contract. The oil filter they use too is going to be of concern for synthetic. If you plan to run...

Quaker State High Mileage aka Defy API SN

Why is QS Defy a downplayed oil? Is it their terrible sludging reputation from years ago, or company going broke and being sold to Shell, slick 50 fiasco? In the High Mileage Synthetic Blend category this is fairly strong additive package at the price-point. I can't think of any other HM...

Quaker State High Mileage aka Defy API SN

Does anyone have a virgin oil analysis for the API-SN version?

Quaker State High Mileage aka Defy API SN

Does the newest formulation of QS HM synthetic blend have too much zink and phosperous? IS it contributing to an early 02/catalytic converter death? Especially since it's recommended in vehicles that burn oil...

    Oil burning issue

Oil grade aside, which has the best documented properties -- gtx Castrol synthetic blend high mileage or Valvoline maxlife? GTX Castrol Edge seems to be good, but is a full synthetic.

    Oil burning issue

That oil seems to be new, and isn't widely available where I am. I'm thinking about Castrol GTX 5w-20 High Mileage Synthetic Blend, is it better/worse than Max-life? 10w is too thick for these motors, so I want to stay with 5w-20 or 5w-30. I haven't seen any scientific evidence to prove which...

    Oil burning issue

I have a question about the best method to fix an oil consumption issue. I'm very into prolonging the life of my truck, a 02 f-250 with a 5.4 triton with 210k. It was a former fleet truck, so I can only assume it's ran whatever conventional was around at the time. It's done 7-10k miles I've...
