    Detroit Diesel 2-stroke oil

Thank you for all the replies! My application is a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA powering a used dump truck I recently purchased, which will be used year round. I'll use a monograde SAE 40 oil as many have recommended. The only brand name oil I've been able to source in my area (Toronto, Ontario) is...

    Detroit Diesel 2-stroke oil

Hi, Older 2-stroke diesel engines, such as the Detroit Diesel 71 and 92 series, had monograde 40-weight oil (SAE 40) with low ash content as being the recommended lubricant. Chevron Delo 100 would be an example of the recommended type of oil. With oil technology having advanced greatly since...

    Delvac ESP or LE

Found out that Shell Rotella T6 5w40 (CK-4) has a Pour Point of -51 degrees Celsius, versus -30 for Delvac ESP 5w40.

New Product Data Sheet for Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40

I've not had any luck getting an updated response from Mobil either. Strange.

    Delvac ESP or LE

Out of curiosity, does a Pour Point of -30 degrees Celsius for ESP 5w40 synthetic oil seem accurate? Aren't most synthetics of that grade in the -45 degrees range?

    Delvac ESP or LE

Hello, I've been using Mobil Delvac ESP 5w40 in my Kubota diesel (30wt or 40wt oils are recommended in the owner's manual). It's been stored indoors in past winters, but we recently moved and it will now spend cold winters outside. It does not have a block heater. Delvac ESP 5w40 seems to have...

    SAE30 oil for Michigan loader

Good point. Those engines found their way into just about every form of heavy equipment. And SAE 40 the recommended lube.

    SAE30 oil for Michigan loader

I've found some old documents that specify SAE 40 as the preferred oil, followed by SAE 30 for the 4-53 2-cycle Detroit Diesel. My initial post was, apparently, wrong regarding SAE 30 being preferred, other than in colder climates. Fortunately, I've located a local supplier of Chevron Delo 100...

Hydraulic oil for old Michigan 75 loader

Are there advantages to using an ISO46 oil in the off-road hydraulic system of the loader, rather than a SAE 10W engine oil?

    Type A transmission fluid

There's one reservoir for the main hydraulics and steering, and another reservoir for the torque converter and transmission. Found an old spec sheet with the following info: Main hydraulics: SAE 10W engine oil, API CC/CD SD/SE Torque Converter and Transmission: C-3 grade transmission fluid or...

Hydraulic oil for old Michigan 75 loader

The 75A loader had different engine options than the 75III. Mine is the General Motors version with the inline 4-53 diesel 2-cycle engine. But I'm sure you're right about both machines using the same hydraulic oil. Thanks to everyone for their help.

    Type A transmission fluid

Great - thank you JayhawkRoy. Oddly enough, I've noticed that the Torqmatic Converter mounted to the Detroit Diesel 4-53 says "use Hydraulic Transmission Fluid Type C-2 plus a full-flow oil filter element cartridge". Is the Torqmatic Converter fluid different that the Type A fluid specified for...

Hydraulic oil for old Michigan 75 loader

Hi - the old Michigan 75 loader I'm restoring has very little literature available. The hydraulic oil recommended for the system simply says "hydraulic oil" ?? Would anyone know what type of hydraulic oil was used successfully in those machines? Thank you!

    SAE30 oil for Michigan loader

Hi - my circa 1960's Clark Michigan loader with a Detroit Diesel 4-53 engine lists SAE30 oil as the recommended engine lube. The manual specifically rejects the use of multigrade oils at that time. Now 50+ years later, should a straight 30wt oil be used as per the old specs or are better...

    Type A transmission fluid

Hi - my old Clark/Michigan wheeled loader (from 1960's) lists "Type A" fluid for the Transmission. Is that a Dexron fluid? Is there a modern version of Type A fluid that can be used in place of the obsolete version? Are Allison and Dexron fluids the same? Thanks!

    Yamalube specs

Thank you for the information. Would anyone have HTHS and TBN values as well? I'm curious to compare those specs with dino Rotella T.
