Explain this? Vehicle travels faster than the wind. My head hurts trying to figure this out.

I like trying to understand things like this but my brain has met it's match. Can anyone explain this? There are many videos on this "blackbird" vehicle traveling fast than the wind. Here is one video but it's long.

    Overfilled engine? Fun video here.

A new video showing an engine overfilled with oil.

Dimpled Pistons? Available today for some engines.

I found this interesting. Perhaps there is much room for improvement for the ICE.

Oil filters Hyundai 35505 vs and Canadian Tire OE plus oil filters

Ran a Genuine Hyundai filter [$12] in my 2016 Elantra GT [130,000 mi] and a CT OE plus filter [$10] in my 2011 Elantra Touring [165,000 mi]. Both for apox 11.500 miles and two oil changes. Took them apart to compare and see how they did. Neither one had carbon or dirt sitting in the bottom of...

    Inexpensive catalytic converter worth it?

The catalytic converter on my 2016 Elantra has decided to clog up. Currently at 135,000 miles, I noticed it was down on power about a year ago but didn't think much of it. Drives alright if you take it very easy. No codes for catalytic failure and there is no emissions testing here. The engine...

Everyone likes valvetrain pics and what is this crosshatch?

Changing the valve cover gasket, so I thought I would take some pics. 2011 Hyundai Elantra Toruing 2.0 litre, 172,000 miles. The cam lobes have some odd [new to me] crosshatch pattern on them. Both sides of the lobes. OCI 7,500 to 5,000 miles with store brand 5W30 synthetic. Not many short trips.

High Efficiency furnace vent pipe, why can't both pipes point down?

My son's house uses a large gas water heater for both hot water and hydronic heat in winter. Last week we had a couple hours of extremely heavy rain. The water heater failed to light the next day and water was leaking from the bottom of the heater. Eventually it was found that rain had entered...

Does the brake closest to Master Cylinder do slightly more braking?

During light diving/braking I find the front left rotor is slightly warmer than the right. [160F vs 150F] All things being equal, is it possible that the left brake [being closer to the master cylinder] does a little more braking by being the first brake to apply?

    Everyone likes valve train pictures

Much cleaner than I anticipated considering I don't change oil often. 99 Caravan 215,000 miles.

Down side of partial oil changes?

I don't like getting under my car and I don't drive as much as I used to so I have simply siphoned a quart out of the sump and added enough to bring it up to full mark for the last year or so. Engine uses a quart per 4,000 miles. Filter is an oversized Fram Ultra so I'm not worried about that...

Why does my trunk lamp have a diode feeding the bulb, can I eliminate it?

2016 Hyundai Elantra GT, the luggage lamp does not work so I remove it and the bulb is good. Power goes to it but it passes through a small diode. If I bypass the diode, it works. My multi meter set to resistance indicates infinite resistance both directions through the diode. Any idea why it's...

    Wear Relationship/blower motor/resistor/cabin filter

I’ve read on many automotive forums that a restricted cabin filter is hard on the blower motor. Opinions? A blower motor resistor will not last as long if used on the slower speeds? A failing blower motor is hard on the blower resistor?

Trip to Orlando, I95 availability of Motels in NC, SC, GA. Hurricane?

Wondering if the recent hurricane will make Hotel/Motel booking difficult. Leaving in few days. Perhaps they are all occupied by those who recently lost their homes. Traveling I77 in NC and SC, then to I95 through GA. Anyone have an idea? I know the obvious answer is to simply call a few hotels...

    50 hp 2013 Mercury 4 stroke surging

Hope I have the correct forum and someone is familiar with this outboard. Problem I have is the engine surges after running at wide open throttle for 30 seconds. The tach indicates 6,500 rpm which is over revving if the tach is correct. It does not sound as if ignition is completely shut off but...

Stories of cars you've seen that just ran forever with little of no maintenance

I have known people that just don't have any interest in maintaining their cars. I might ask them when they last had it serviced and they just look at me like I have two heads and they ask why. My neighbor had a mid 80's Pontiac Parisienne until about 2008. He called it the tank and I don't ever...

Open the hood, a light would come on, where did they go?

I had a couple of cars that had a light under the hood, but they seem to have disappeared. Maybe the high end cars have them now but my 85 base model Caprice had one. My 94 GMC STX van had a light on a spool of wire that could wind out and reach the back of the van with a magnet to hold the...

Electronic battery charger connected but not plugged in, drain battery?

If I connect a newer style, electronic battery charger [Noco or Schumacher 15 amp], to my trolling motor battery and leave it a couple of weeks with no electricity to the building, will the charger draw current from the battery?

    Explain my AC system

I cannot understand how the ac system in my Dodge Van works. From looking under the hood and from what the shop manual says, the only pressure sensing device it has is a pressure transducer in the high side line. This transducer reports to the powertrain control computer and the PCM will not...
