Japanese-made compact FWD SUV, no CVT?

Don't think they make any FWD any longer. I looked at a couple dealerships and didn't see any FWD. All AWD.

    Tax prep woes ...

Yes. I had to do this a few years ago. Tried to file myself and didn't understand a stock sale rules. I estimated and sent a big check and then went to a tax guy to figure it out. He was very impressed how close I came to what I owed.

All of a sudden I'm listening to The Police

I didn't realize the Police were old enough to be on 8-track. We saw Cheap Trick in Vegas. We bought half price tickets and when they went to pick our seats, the guy in line in front of me was surly to the clerk. I was my nice friendly self and we got seats in the front row. It was during...

Are we over exaggerating the perfect ATF fluid level? thermal expansion seems to think we are

Between Apollo and Astro, i think the same thing is understood but perhaps different opinions on how tight the specs are. The fill level range is +/- ~60 mL out of a total fill of, I'm guessing, ~4000 mL at ~46°C. That is +/- 1.5%. That is a tight spec to me. It's tighter than specs on...

    Portable Oxygen Concentrators

My in-laws have an Inogen G5. It's pretty easy to use even though they have issues understanding it. The battery life is not great. I'd look at the new Inogen G6 which claims a 12 hour battery. The G5 claims 6 hours but they only get about 2 hours out of it. You can carry spare batteries if...

If I bought that vehicle, and I've thought about it, I'd have the dealer change the oil through the warranty period. I don't have the same faith in those engines that I have in my Toyota, but that Santa Fe is a very nice vehicle.

Recently purchased oil filter cap. Decent or return?

It seems impossible to over-tighten the plastic cap on my Camry. It stops and it doesn't budge when I tighten it after a certain point. I'm surprised that I haven't broken off any plastic fins the 15 times that I've changed the oil filter. I'm not a fan of the design.

    Roof quote

I replaced my roof a couple years ago for free but it would have cost about $20k for a medium complex roof. 3200 sq ft. It seems like a bizarre industry. The company charges you a lot of money and then has people of questionable immigration status to actually do the work. Not sure if these...

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

I forgot about this. When I was down on my luck, I had a 1990 Camry wagon that I picked up for cheap with a salvage title. The receipts to repair it were in the car and far exceeded the price that I paid for it. It also had two receipts for lifetime mufflers. (?) One from Midas and one from...

Not surprised in VT or NH

This is true. But there should be a way for good old capitalism to solve this. First, we need to let capitalism work and remove price gouging laws. If we allow the free-market to set prices, then it might be profitable for a business to break out a portable diesel generator and move it to...

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

The transmission in my 2004 RAV4 blew at 399,942 miles. I barely touched it. Sold my old Jeep Cherokee when the RMS blew.

Airline card credit card annual fees, wow $495?

I thought about it when I was traveling a lot and my company credit card was in my name and I had to pay the bill. Might as well put in on my own credit card and reap the benefits. I pay almost everything via my credit card to get the rewards but I travel a lot less so the higher tier credit...

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

And the Hyundai/Kia theta engines. They are disparaged. From what I hear it a metallurgy thing. Not sure if changing the oil at 3000 miles vs 7500 miles will make a difference in these engines.

The truth about oil change intervals and analysis

I watched a bit of the video here and there. Have to totally disagree with Dave that the manufacturers won't care about long term reliability. Of course OEMs are concerned with the longevity of their products.

    Oil is Oil

Huh? Water is not oil. And it's assumed we're not talking about salad oil.

    Oil is Oil

Here is what I think. Within the confines of an adequate OCI with an adequate filter and typical driving habits with a properly engineering and built engine, all oils meeting a certain specification will provide similar function. So, in that regard, oil is oil. You need to get to the fringes...
