It's unlikely that an oil will make that much of a difference but any good 5w30 should get the job done.

I'd use Mobil 1 ESP. Very shear stable. The Russian Oil Club has two Kurt Orbahn shear stability tests with this oil and it does very well.

They started putting the new Mobil 1 LV in the 2020 models. I was told there was some tweaks done to the torque converter as well for the 2021-22.

No one really knows what Mobil is using these days. The best guess is ANs.

That's my thought as well. Just keep it as clean as possible with periodic flushes.

I'd like to at least get the OE fluid out.

The 8 speed Colorado is approaching 25k miles. I want to stay on top of fluid changes in this unit being they were previously prone to shudder issues. Is a flush the right way to go? I've read that some don't recommend flushes, but that seems to be based on the mileage of the vehicle.

Most if not all engines can run on different viscosity grades.

This guy still isn't a fan. Says Honda ones are a bit better but they still see failures around 50k miles. Likely due to no fluid changes if I had to guess. Still annoying.

It really depends on what specific type of 5w40 they're talking about. Are they suggesting better protection due to the viscosity increase? Some 5w40's may have more VII's than Amsoil 5w30 SS and may end up becoming a 5w30 in service. Amsoil 5w30 SS already provides incredible turbo...

It's hard to beat some of these new hybrid ICE from Toyota and Honda.
