2017 GMC Terrain with blown engine 51,000 miles

That is unfortunate. I would say by 2017 I don't think these were dropping like flies like the earlier models were. My parents have a 2017 that just turned 100K miles and thankfully is running well.

Do you use auto start/stop feature (if applicable)?

VW has it, it's fine I just don't care for the extra wear however minimal it may be. Both my wife and I shut the feature off after starting the car, but sometimes I forget and I will usually just leave the feature on for the rest of the drive.

Mother is looking for a new car, need advice.

Others have probably already said this, but those are possibly the two worst choices. Toyota / Honda / Mazda is where I would start looking.

They built those well! Didn't some have steering rack issues? Any trouble with yours?

    [Cut Open] Volkswagen 04E 115 561 H (9,302 Miles)

Looks good. I've been getting the "made in Turkey" filters from the dealer lately.

How soon after waking up on work days do you actually leave home for work?

I'd say 2 hours. Wake up, eat breakfast, take meds, get out 3 year old something for breakfast and dress him, shower and get changed, do devotions pack up and head out. 2 hours sounds like a lot of time but it sure flies by when in this context.

Honda K24 2.4L / 5 speed AT - known issues / what to look for?

2008-2010 had more oil burning issues, 2011-2012 would be preferred for sure as long as you find a well maintained example. I had a 2012 Accord 2.4 before the Camry, excellent car.

    2024 Civic w/NA 2.0 - Honda recommends 0w-20 - Suggestions and thoughts?

I've only seen them listed on this site over the years. One member did their own testing if I remember correctly, which reflected what the manufacturer had stated. Years ago some manufactures published that data, as least they would disclose it to you over email.

    2024 Civic w/NA 2.0 - Honda recommends 0w-20 - Suggestions and thoughts?

Certainly not necessary, but preferred by me and many others. Of note Honda and Toyota do spec a significantly less restrictive media in their OEM filters. Take that for what it may be worth. It is also worth mentioning that there seems to be a noticeable drop in quality of oil filters across...

What oil in 2020 VW GLI 2.0 TSI

Right, I am well aware. I was just stating that all op needs to worry about is locating an oil with the 508.00 certification. I've just seen too many owners see "0w20" then go out and dump Pennzoil Platinum or similar in "because it takes 0w20". 508.00 and you are good.

What oil in 2020 VW GLI 2.0 TSI

Use the factory owners manual specified oil. Which is VW 508.00 spec. I'm not sure if you are familiar with VW/Audi spec oils but you can essentially forget about the weight in this application. Just get an oil that has the 508.00 spec and you will be good to go. Personally I just pick up the...

    2024 Civic w/NA 2.0 - Honda recommends 0w-20 - Suggestions and thoughts?

0w20 all day every day with a Honda OEM filter. 5K / 6 months. I'm not saying its perfect but it's reasonable and works for me.

Sonata 2.4L P1326 limp mode/flashing check engine light/1800 rpm limit

I know of 5 people in my circle that have had Hyundai engine failures. Four were the 2.4, the other was the 1.6 turbo.

Sonata 2.4L P1326 limp mode/flashing check engine light/1800 rpm limit

Probably needs a new engine. I’m sure they will cover it and you will be good for another 80k.

I need a long lasting fuel efficient vehicle (not a hybrid, electric, or PHEV)

I'm aware of the complaints when the 8 speed first came out. Lots of complaints about shifting behavior, very few had issues but the behavior was unpleasant. Toyota rectified that years ago. I find the transmission programming to be just about perfect. I want my transmissions to behave in a...

I need a long lasting fuel efficient vehicle (not a hybrid, electric, or PHEV)

I recently purchased a 2023 Camry. It uses Toyotas "Dynamic Force" 2.5 engine that utilizes both port and direct injection, eliminating the concern of direct injection carbon build up. 40+ MPG on the interstate is easily achieved, mixed city driving you can hit over 30. That's fantastic IMO for...

Dodge Durango 3.6L - second run of HPL 5w-20 - 23,500 miles on oil 4,800 miles on filter - holes in filter media

Is the crimped area heat sealed or does it use a metal crimp? I started using OEM filters on the vehicles I service about a year ago as more and more filters posted here appear to be having issues. Very likely a small number of affected filters overall but quality control seems to have taken a...
