    Rotor failure

Thought I would share today's experience with a set of rotors that failed. I was expecting a seized caliper as rotor was rusty and brake pads were cleaning corrosion off other 3. After tearing it down this separation from the fins rusting away. Rotors were brand new a little over 2 years ago. O...

    Brakes pulsing 02 Montero

My 02 Montero has a pulsing brake pedal that reminds me of what many people call warped rotors or runout is out of spec. Just did the brakes all the way around within about 6 months and they were smooth initially. Have not driven it very much as I was waiting for cooler weather to fix them. When...

Budget Car Rental - lack of maintenance

I rented a minivan 2 weeks ago to take a trip out west. As soon I got the minivan change oil warning came on. Told them about it and they said probably just forgot to reset the warning. I checked and it was a half quart low and did not look new. Sticker on corner said oil change due 27,000 miles...

Michelin Endurance XT vs Farenheit Wiper Blades

Trying to find out if there is any difference in these 2 blades. It appears the Endurance is primarily marketed through Walmart but they may be identical. Hoping someone else knows more than I am finding. Thanks.

P0128 code on 04 grand marquis

Recently picked up a great grand marquis with handling package. CEL came on and code reads P0128. Says Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature. Anyone else ever see this? Drove car to Florida and back and drove great. Fuel economy seemed a little lower than I hoped but not terrible...

    Montero plates on rear end

When doing brake job today noticed a stack of metal plates on rear of my Montero. Look like some kind of counter balance weights. Top one being pushed off by rust. Anyone know what these are for?

Looking to buy a Tahoe or Suburban. What to look for or avoid?

I am considering buying a used Tahoe or Suburban and want to stay below$10k. Wanted to know about motor and or transmission issues. I see some older ones are 4 speed and slightly newer ones are 6 speed. Also do all of the 5.3 engines have cylinder deactivation. Think I prefer avoiding that. Thanks

Snapper drive belt install trouble LT300

Having trouble getting belt over the pulley. Gap too small between frame and top of pulley to get belt onto pulley. Looks like nuts can be turned to slide the lower pulley section which may create a better gap. Anyone ever done one like this? Thanks

How to break stuck rotors free

Had trouble getting my Montero rotors off today and tried this minus the impact driver. Used a standard 3/8 socket as the wasn't enough space for the impact driver. Worked great and wanted to share it in case you get into trouble with stuck rotors one day...

    Rislone Additive success??

Wondering who has used this product with success and what was the best manner to use it. Kind of a long shot but I am willing to give it a shot. 2001 Sable transmission is slipping. Cannot climb my steep hill driveway anymore...

    Tranny fluid on garage floor

Well I have an issue that cylinder 1 is misfiring on my 03 mercury sable. Pulled it in garage a week ago and it has been parked there. Put a new coil pack on as I thought that was the issue. Started car yesterday and misfire not as bad but still there. Now going to change the plug wire and see...

    Dodge Grand Caravan GT

I rented a Dodge Grand Caravan GT this weekend and was a little disappointed in the fuel economy. We have a Chrysler Town and Country at work and trips across Ohio to Cleveland from Louisville, KY I regularly get 29-30 mpg doing 75-80 mph. The Dodge was getting about 25 average but there were...

    Batteryless Car Starter

Has anyone ever used these? Looks like a great concept but not sure about practical use and functionality. Supposed to charge these off your weak battery or from an external source like another car or even a portable phone charger. Don't think they work on a completely dead battery but not sure...

Update - 2001 Mercury Sable not moving forward

Thought I would let everyone know what I found in my Sable that I posted around 3 weeks ago. Jacked the car up and put in neutral - passenger front wheel would rotate backwards but not forward. Looking underneath nothing obvious could be seen like an axle or strut snapped. Upon looking closer at...

    2001 Sable won't move forward

My wife was driving our 2001 Mercury Sable when it made a noise like tire popping. Said it quit driving forward but would go reverse. Tow truck driver said front passenger tire was locked up. Of course I was out of town on fishing trip. Any thoughts what it might be?

Grand Marquis feels like misfiring - transmission?

My Grand Marquis with over 205,000 miles runs and drives great. I just took a long trip to Washington DC and climbing the mountains made the temperature go up which I have never seen but I also have never climbed those big steep hills. Car eventually started not maintaining speed to the point of...

Saw these new NGK Ruthenium spark plugs and was curious if anyone has used them yet? If so what any difference - smoother idle or anything. Do you know where these can be purchased? Saw some on Rockauto and they were gone the next day.

Rounded off oil drain bolt - How to remove?

My recently purchased 03 sable with 3.0 duratec has a rounded off oil drain bolt. 1st time for me changing this car's oil. Not much space to get in there 2-3 inches so drilling is not an option on the vehicle. Tried some of the bolt extractors that fit on a socket with no success. Bolt is on...
