Old Recalls - How Are They Handled?

Safety related recalls are forever. Give your local dealer a call and ask for a time you can drive in for them to run the VIN. They'll be able to tell what recalls are open that specifically apply to your vehicle. If anything applies to your VIN, they'll get paid to take care of it by the...

Original 68 Buick th400 just failed

There are several levels of rebuild kits available. Each one adds more parts. The transmission ideally should be diagnosed and, if needed, disassembled to determine what it needs. For instance, last month I rebuilt a TH350 out of 1967 Firebird which hadn't moved in 13 years. It was leaking...

Choosing oil for a bracket racer drag car

I work on three different strip/street V8/RWD bracket cars. What are the qualities or specifications I should be looking for in choosing an engine oil? All three are single carburetor, hydraulic flat tappet camshaft engines. Ideally the engines get torn down and inspected every other season. An...

Yours had damage to the end cap as well? Yup. Cut the filter open and that is exactly what came out.

Puro Classic L24651 ho-hum another one

Installed 11/01/2015, removed 05/20/2016, 6037 miles. PYB 5W20. I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I thought the date code could be helpful to someone. Classics have worked well for me in the past. Not this OCI. The metal end being loose from the filter doesn't bother me. The cracked black...

    Towing in 3rd or drive

Tow / haul does not help the lube issue. It is only a different shift schedule, kinda like a shift kit. The tow / haul switch is just an input to the pcm / tcm to tell it to shift harder and later.

190K miles on our 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT purchased new. 3.8 liter Buick engine and a 4T65e transaxle. anyone here ever own an old beetle?

I currently own 2, a '66 standard (still 6 volt) and a '78 fuel injected convertible Super. I've also owned a '68 fuel injected Squareback and a '64 Ghia. Outstanding heaters/defrosters in all of them I might add. I believe when these cars are well maintained and in good repair, they are as good...

    Old gaskets

When I think it is clean enough, I'll give the surface a spray of brake clean. Any gasket material missed will absorb the cleaner, will turn black, and be easily be seen. A wire brush attachment on a drill motor works for me.

    The Mystery Rattle from ****

I just last weekend solved a rattle in my '01 Pontiac Grand Prix, similar to your Le Sabre. I found the left front strut mount loose and worn out. With the hood open, lock onto the large nut holding the strut rod to the mount. The rod should be tight in the mount. I could move mine. Also, put a...
