Truck lift kits, squatted trucks, safety issues

I live in a state where trucks are allowed to squat. Meaning the front suspension is jacked up a foot or more, and the rear lowered. Most times the driver's seat is moved all the way forward and the backrest tilted forward quite a bit, and if there is a seat height adjustment, the seat is raised...

    New convertible top

I recently bought a 1990 Miata with the original convertible top. I am about to replace it with an OEM from Robbins and this one will have a plastic rear window. What is the best UV protection product for the plastic window? This car will be garaged. I did not want to get the glass window option...

    Aladdin "Stanley" vacuum bottle

I have an old vacuum bottle that I decided to use again. It has been a while since I've used it. I've had it since the 80's. It is made in Tennessee. I always preheat or prechill the bottle before filling it with the corresponding fluid. Today I poured boiling water and emptied it and quickly...

Is it advisable to NOT wax the car before PPF application?

    Touch up paint blob

I did some touch up paint on a small rock chip and of course the cross section of this looks like a tiny speed hump covering a small pothole. It now looks like a scab on a healing zit with heaped up edges. The paint has long dried and I want to smoothen out this "blob". Years gone by, a website...

Recent repaint and what PPF did

My 2015 VW got a hood and front bumper repaint due to rock chips. Tornado Red. 35 days after the repaint I took it for PPF installation. PPF guy noted that the rockchip areas are noticeable under the repaint; means the painter did not sand down the rock chip crater prior to repainting. Fast...

Home HVAC has a refrigerant leak

20-21 year old TRANE XL1800 apparently has a refrigerant leak in the evaporator coil. Is there a type of refrigerant that has some "sealing" compound to stop leaks?

Police Ford Explorer auxiliary tail light

Looking to find a vendor for auxiliary tail lights similar to those found in police cars, specifically the Explorer. These lights are on either side of the license plate and are vertically oriented, maybe 4 inches tall and an inch wide, and emit a very bright red LED signal you can see from a...

Felt like I was at a candy store

Went to WM to get Purina dog food. Decided to swing by the Auto section and saw Rotella T6 15W40 in 2.5 gallon jugs for $49. Swiped 2. Should last me 2 years.

Dashmount and windshield phone mount goo

I placed a phone mount on the windshield. The entire windshield has a 70% film that apparently blocks UV and infrared rays. The phone mount has a suction cup that has a gooey material on it. This goo has now turned into slime and I have a hard time cleaning the residue off. Any suggestions on...

    Diesel prices

Before Putin got angry diesel prices were about the same price if not cheaper than super unleaded. I know the excise tax is higher on diesel, but what explains the massive runaway price increase in diesel these days?

    DELVAC ESP Synthetic

No where to be found. Used to be available almost everywhere for around $20/gallon. Now they are price gouging. Is this a supply chain issue or a deBeers "a diamond is forever" campaign?

    COLORED brake fluid.

Years ago ATE had a blue colored DOT4 which made it easy to tell when to stop bleeding brakes. Are there any other brake fluids with coloring in them? Last I heard ATE is "banned" (maybe that is too harsh of a term) from selling the blue fluid.

    MAG 1 5W-40 7.5k miles; VW 2.0 TDI 48k miles

Iron and silicon are high. The oil analysis at 29,300 was from Motul with a 507.00 rating, 5W-30. Viscosity with either oil is below average. No idea where all this iron and silicon is coming from. I've been using the same air filter.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/How-High-Will-Oil-Prices-Go-This-Year.html Why is there so much vagary with the explanation as to why oil prices are going up? There is the theory about OPEC closing the valves, and COVID cases dropping and that vaccines are going to make the economy...

    MAG 1 CJ-4 and CK-4 full syn 5W-40

I have used both oils and reviewed the oil analyses and compared the properties on paper. I have been informed by the chemist that the CK-4 is a superior oil to the CJ-4 in terms of oxidation control, and the quality of the oil is markedly better. When looking at the description of the...

Old school bucket of soap and cotton or FoamBlaster

Before FoamBlasters became all the vogue, most detailers used a bucket of soap with a dust trap at the bottom. Used to be, pressure washers were frowned upon because of how it gets water under paint chips etc. Are newer pressure washers and FoamBlaster attachments better now at not sending a...

    Diesel fuel & suspended dirt

I have a VW Mk7 TDI that I bought used as part of the VW DieselGate buy back, had 25000 miles on it, and I had it inspected before buying. I had my mechanic change out the fuel filter at the time of purchase. He eyeballed the canister and fuel tank and said the fuel looked fine. Now 15000 later...
