Bought yesterday 2 new "gold" 5l cans of Castrol Edge 5W40 "boosted with fst". I think there was an error displaying the price because oil was 30 euros cheaper than the old 5W40 edge fst... I took advantage... We'll see if the "Golfinelle" likes BITOG Running Total Stash Count: 37,117 quarts

Spotted today... Shell helix Ultra 5W40 with Pure Plus Technology : 31€/5l I found the old label with the clean piston prettier... Euro specs...

First of all congratulations on your purchase I owned an 3.2 CTS Sport Luxury & I loved that car. I used different oils... Shell Helix Ultra 5W30, Castrol 0W30 and finally GM DEXOS 2 5W30 (bought on ebay). No problems during the 7500/10000km OCI with Shell & GM oils. Castrol EDGE 0W30 was IMO...

I bought the car at approximatively 80000km... I make 4 oil changes at 7500km (half recommended interval) with quality branded synthetic (castrol & mobil 1 for the last) because the car was a little bit sluggish & I knew that the VR6 motor was known for that. I think I've maintained the car...

I noticed that since my last change to 5W40 redline my car Golf V R32 exhausts emitted over a long smoke. It had a bad odor and the exhausts were darkened. I raised the filler cap, smelt the back who did not feel as hot oil when I used previous 5W40 Group III oils. Oil were darkened too...

Used 5,5l of Redline 5w40 for the November oil change. Purchased yesterday 5 "1 liter" of Castrol Edge 0w30 aka GC in hypermarket at 50% regular price + 1 liter of 0w40 castrol sport

504 oils are "long life full synthetic" oil only in (5?)-W30 grade like Castrol Edge & Shell Helix Ultra Extra here in Europe. They are Low-SAPS and fuel economy 502 is the old spec (rarely full synthetic) for normal OCI gasoline engine like the 4,5 cylinder or VR6 like mine without DI & turbo...

This engine is also known to be a sludger (IMO due to too long OCI...) & shortening the OCI will preserves the timing chain lubricated by the motor oil. If your engine has small varnish (like mine) maybe use more detergent oil like Shell Ultra or PU will help to clean it... Sorry for my bad...

In France, almost all of the 5W40 oils are VW 502/505 compliant even the cheapest but I would find an oil like the Mobil 0W40 for my VR6... Mobil 1 New Life is expensive here.
