    Scams

I received an e-mail today that my Amazon account would be suspended due to suspected fraudulent activity. Looked to be authentic at first glance. The e-mail requested information to include my social security #. Nice try, no way! Yesterday I got a call from "Social Security" notifying me that...

Honda recalling the serviced recalled air bags

It appears that Honda is set to recall around 1M previously serviced recalled air bags in the US and some 85 thousand in Canada. I only saw a preliminary report. Information from a Honda representative is due March 12, 2019. I had the drivers air bag replaced initially and then the passenger air...

    KFE brake pads?

Anyone have experience with these KFE brake pads? They seem to get a pretty good review on Amazon. I have new Honda hardware to do the brake job. Honda really rips you off for clips, springs and boots! Akebono (Honda OEM) pads work, but are 2-3 times the price of these. I may give these a go.

Honda Power Steering Fluid vs Redline Power Steering Flu

Saw this in an old post: "The Redline PSF has an additive package very similar to the Honda PS fluid. The Redline PS has slightly more AW additives than the Honda PS. The Redline synthetic fluid comes in at 7.0 cSt virgin and shears to about 6.4 cSt after repeated mechanical and thermal...

    Alternative to Honda coolant?

http://www.oemantifreeze.com/oem-blue/ Purchased this coolant from Pep Boys last year. I purchased the concentrate which is meant to be diluted 50:50 with distilled water. It was around $12/gallon so about a quarter of the price of diluted Honda coolant with shipping. I wanted to flush the...

Tokyo Roki (Filtech) synthetic media oil filter?

I have a Honda and have used the Filtech -01 filter pretty consistently over the life of my auto. Never had a problem or seen many people have a problem with the filter. Does Filtech make a synthetic medium filter for extended drain oil changes?

Delco synchromesh friction modified MT fluid

I have run Honda MT Fluid I and Honda MT Fluid II. Honda MT Fluid II was a big improvement especially in below freezing temperatures, shifts were much smoother. There was a big difference in viscosity of the two. Honda MT I being around 11.2 viscosity and II at around 7.7 viscosity based on VAO...

    Honda reliability

I have a 2003 Honda product with low mileage. It has been very reliable. The Accord is their most popular model. I have heard from mechanics that 80's thru late 90's Honda's were more reliable than later model years. Issues related to brakes and automatic transmission are known problem areas...

    Vehicle mainteance and repair costs

I have kept receipts for maintenance and repairs of my vehicle in an envelope in my glove box. I never calculated costs per year or per mile. So I took a few minutes to do the calculations. I logged tires, batteries, fluid changes, filters, brake, O2 sensor, broken mirror, belts etc. No...

Car repair has become module sensor replacement

[b]Paper written prior to 2000. Abstract The highest rates of growth for sensors have been in the automotive sector. Forecasts (Prognos Studie: Sensortechnik 2000) suggest a 14% annual increase in sales to reach 15 billion DM by 1995. This is due to a spectacular rise in electronic functions...

    pH spent coolant?

I work in a lab and have the opportunity to check the ph of my coolant. An acidic pH is one indicator of spent coolant, as it has lost its ability to buffer. Honda 50:50 coolant has a pH of 7.9 according to Honda MSDS. I follow Honda's recommendation for coolant change which is 5 years/60,000...

    Honda Coolant Type II MSDS

Appears to be dated 2005. This is the 50/50 solution as provided by the manufacturer. I was interested in the pH, which is 7.9. http://www.worldpac.com/tagged/Coolant_-_Honda.pdf I wish I had taken the pH of the change out I did on the factory fill. It would be interesting to see if it had...

    Honda engine issues

I have had a number of Honda cars dating back to 1980 and have not had engine or transmission issues. I have done maintenance according to the owners manual or earlier than scheduled on these cars. I don't beat them and they have been reliable autos for me. I have a 2003, 2.4L engine and have...

    Death of manual transmissions?

I guess I have been asleep at the wheel. I just realized that manual transmission are well on their way to becoming extinct, except for a rare sports car model. I am in my early 60's and not looking for a sports car. I have not owned an automatic or CVT vehicle. I have been driving manual...

    Fuel economy and oil choices?

I have an interest in maintaining my vehicle in good working order but I am no expert in oil chemistry, nor do I want to be. I remember reading an article claims about motor oils and fuel economy. It made claims about oil viscosity and claims about synthetic versus dino oil and fuel mileage...

Used Comparison: Fram Old versus New Extra Guard

A video of the construction of a used ten year old or so Fram Extra Guard filter versus a newer used Fram Extra Guard. The filters are probably not for equivalent applications. The bypass set up is different. The new Fram Extra Guard is reported to have a cellulose and glass filter media at 95%...

    Jet-Lube Silicone Dielectric Compound?

I need to replace some sway bar bushings. Many people load the bushings with silicone lube to prevent the bushings from drying out. I had some Honda silicone grease but it's lost and very expensive to replace. This looks to be an equivalent and 5 times less expensive. Anyone use it...
