    Kumho KU27 or Nexen N5000? 195/65R15

The Corolla tires (8y old Cooper CS5 with 80k miles) have been on the wear bars for some time. I could run them until the fuzzies show up and get some real traction while I wait for tire prices to come down ... or I could just change them. I can get the KU27 for $69 and the Nexen for $57 at...

    Microgard MGL51315 cut open

This filter was used on the 97 Maxima for 7515 miles and 23 months. Oil used was Delo XLE 10W-30. Kept the same oil and used a Fram PH3614. Before anyone raises the alarm, I changed the oil filter mount nipple to 3/4-16. After draining for 23 hours the filter was full of oil. Sadly, one pleat...

    PH3614 ATF cut open

This filter was used to filter Maxlife ATF in the power steering circuit of my 97 Maxima for 40k miles and 58 months. Even though the ATF made the drainback valve very pliable, most of the ATF drained out in 22hrs. The black stuff on the filter media is glue. I replaced it with a Wix 51348XP ...

    Microgard MGL51372 cut open - 5.4 3v

I haven't had a filter so torn for more than a decade ... oh well. I bought this 09 Expedition used at an auction, oil was clear so I let it do it's time. Oil level was kinda high, so (in hind sight) I imagine they didn't bother changing the filter too. In conclusion this filter was in use for...

    PureOne PL14477 cut open

This one goes out to the veterans that remember these filters... Filter was in use for about 5k and 8 months in the 04 Corolla, filtering Mobil Super5000 10W-30. Mostly short tripped. Even though it sat draining for more than 2 months, it was still full of oil. The only thing I see wrong with it...

    Want to buy a chainsaw

I have a couple a trees I want to cut, another couple to trim. I started on one with shovel, pick axe, trowel, axe, hatchet - the works, but even my wife eventually said I should buy some kind of power tool (and that is saying something :ROFLMAO:). The ones I want to cut are near a fence, behind...

Tire size choice for 8" wide rims (Ford Expedition)

I'm starting to plan for tire replacement on my 2009 Expedition. It sees highway/road snow in winter (ski trips to Tahoe) and mountain dirt roads the rest of the time (want to deflate tires in that situation), but most of the miles are dry/wet pavement (getting to the previously mentioned...

    iPhone transfer without software update

Not a smartphone enthusiast, but use them. I'm trying to transfer to transfer my data and settings from an 6s+ running ios15 to an SE II running ios16. Transfering via new phone setup wizard wants to update it to ios17 (right here, right now - no option to decline or do it later) - which I...

Looking for a new torque wrench

I'll start by saying that I ruined the ratcheting teeth on my cheapo HF torque wrench (20-150 lbft one) while torquing the Expedition lug nuts to 150lbft. They gave me a new one, still in box, might sell it for cheap. The ruined one has been good for the 14 years I've had it, although I didn't...

    New McGraw air compressor

I bought it about 2 weeks ago, finally setting up today. Should I be happy that only this much water and rust drained before even powering it up?

Best way to deal with roof antenna leftovers

My new to me SSV 2009 Expedition has 3 antenna bases on the roof with a little bit of rust around them. I'm trying to prevent further damage and moisture intrusion. I can't think of a personal need for antennas. The simplest thing I can think of is to do a bit of sanding around them and apply...

How old are these tires? BFG ko2

I can't figure it out, are they pre 2000? They are on my "new" 2009 Expedition. LT load range E.

    Bought a 2009 Expedition

Bought it at an auction over the weekend. XLT EL trim, 190k miles, former state vehicle, some rust up top near the remnants of the antennas, some rust underneath the paint on bonnet (did Ford paint these outside in the rain?), some panels misaligned on the right side. Including pic with the good...

    Jetta tint film decision

The Jetta I acquired last year is due for some tint for an upcoming trip. Need some opinions on these choices based on quotes so far. Only have recommendation for the first shop, the others are yelped. 1. 3M color stable $350. Shop was recommended by a coworker. 2. Autobahn Black: $325 black...

    OBD port disconnecting at smog

So my 97 Max failed smog 2 times in 2 days because the smog place's device disconnects from the OBD port in the middle of the test. Handheld devices work just fine, at least the 3 I tried.. Aside from cleaning the battery terminals, what else should I try? Anybody else run into something like this?

2012 Jetta Sportwagen yay or nay?

An aquaintance has just had a noise develop in the manual tranny of his Jetta. Being a manual and wagon I was naturally interested in buying it when he expressed his desire to buy a new car. 2012 JSW, 180k, 2.5 engine, manual tranny with developing problems. I have not see it yet, but it's very...

Residential AC blower fan not starting on cool but working for heat

Hoping this is an easy fix... Residential AC blower fan not starting on cool but working for heat. Outside compressor seems to work (fan spinning, noise - including swooshing at the radiator/blower). Heat works fine (electric). Anyone had this problem before?

    2003-2008 Corolla cold idle rpm

I have become accustomed to the fact that my wife's 2004 Corolla idles at ~2000 rpm on cold starts, which is pretty annoying because of noise, slamming the tranny in gear at 2000 rpm and the safety hazard posed by it's tendency to pickup speed then upshift - you really have to be on the brakes...

    Soft sidewall tires in 2020

Thinking of buying new tires for the Maxima to prepare for the upcoming damp season. The Falken Sincera SN211 on there now have become too hard, and lose traction braking harder in the dry, and easily in the wet. I had some scares, don't want to crash the car. They still have thread after about...
