Lots of hail damaged cars listed on Copart

I think someone here was looking for one recently. Many with clean titles. https://www.copart.com/vehicle-search-damage/haildamage

Educate me on the federal tax credit for buying a USED EV.

I was under the impression that tax credits apply only when you buy new. Now I'm reading that even most used EV qualify for a 30% credit as long as the sale price is under $25,000 and it's more than 2 years old. A few other qualifications including income limitations apply but the details are...

Will doing this cleanup delete my remembered usernames and passwords?

On many online sites, my username and password are automatically remembered so I don't have to type them in every time I visit the site. Will deleting the above cookies, history or files erase all that information?

How to fix this broken release handle?

From my Nissan Leaf. Replacement from the dealer is over $100. It still works fine, just looks ugly. Don't think putting glue on the edge and putting it together is strong enough. Thinking I should embed a metal piece behind it too with epoxy. Any other options?

Started with an iron decon after washing it, then went over the paint with a clay mitt. Polished with Meguiar's 110 using a dual action machine. Wet sanded a few...

TW Graphene Flex Wax vs. Pro To The Max Wax?

I've been using the first for years but considering the second. Any opinions comparing the two?

    Non alcoholic beer reviews

I don't care for beer myself, alcoholic or not, but for those that do, the Washington Post did a comprehensive review. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2024/04/04/best-nonalcoholic-beers-ipas-pilsners/ My question is, if they are non alcoholic, does it mean it's ok for children to drink...

How to make this broken tailight look better?

New one is over $300, and used ones are $100-$200. Just the lip of the housing is broken off so inside is still dry. Any clear plastic repair product to fill that gap? I was thinking clean silicone sealant maybe.

Expensive Nissan CAFs vs. other brands

I try to buy oem filters even for older cars if they don't cost too much more, but $41 is way too much for a plain cabin filter from Nissan. It's not even charcoal and at my price of $26 it's still too much. I'd order a $3 Ultra power or $4 Bosch filter from Rock Auto if I needed other...

How to remove grime from painted switches?

I can almost bet that if I used my usual cleaner degreaser on that switch, the letters will come off or smudge badly. What about a steamer?

Seller says he bought them a year or two ago.

    Big dent in the roof

Thinking of some DIY possibilities as a bodyshop isn't in the budget on this $4-5K car. 1. Suction cup to work it up from the top. 2. Jack and some supports to push up from the inside. Anything else? Doesn't have to be perfect, just get rid of the rooftop lake after a rain.

Do people still fall for these internet scams?

I haven't gotten one in a long time and assume it has been played out and nobody fell for them anymore, but got this today, Attn: TO You, NOTE: If you received this message in your SPAM/BULK folder, it is because of the restrictions imposed by your Mail/Internet Service Provider, we urge you...

How popular are 1st gen EVs down in the islands?

Been thinking about where I may target selling my old short range 1st generation EVs, and it occurred to me that some island country or locality where you can't drive too far, would be perfect. Like in the Caribbean, there are over a dozen that are no wider or longer than five, ten or 15 miles...

    Copart Basic or Premier membership?

Any Copart members here who renewed their membership recently? Copart recently changed the business membership options from just a Premier member, to that, plus a Basic member. Premier used to be $150 a year but now it's $250 + $400 one-time fully refundable deposit. No idea why they started...

Real life experience with the oil life monitor system.

I don't usually drive cars long enough to actually require an oil change, I usually just change it after purchase if the oil doesn't look too clean, or before I sell it if it looked good then. Anyway, I've had this 07 Silverado 6.0 tow truck for years, and the CHANGE OIL message just came on...

What stupid brake part costs twice as much on a old Nissan Leaf as it does on a Mercedes s-class?

Picked up 2012 Leaf recently. I'm sure Nissan would rather you buy a new Nissan so they price a "needed for state inspection" part so outrageously, thinking you will just dump the car instead of paying more than 50% of the value of the car with labor on something that most people never even use...

2011 Azure Dynamics Transit Connect van. Worth anything these days?

You can Google it, but LSS they went out of business almost as soon as the trucks went to market. Sticker price of $55,000 probably had something to with it, if the 55 mile range wasn't the nail in the coffin. Anyway, this 55,000 mile example came up for sale and I offered $1700 but they want...

    Tribologist discusses 0W8 motor oil

He is using his daughters '23 Corolla as test bed. Also mentioned how 10,000 mile oil changes are not a good idea and that he changed the oil twice already himself before taking it in to the dealer at 10,000 miles to see what oil they will use.
