Is Rotella 15w-40 still ok for motorcycles?

Years ago, early 2000's, on the GoldWing Rider's board the question of using HDEO in our Wings was being debated regularly. It so happened that a member was a Shell employee in the correct department to answer the concerns. At the time, 15-40 was NOT labled as JASO. He reported that the JASO...

The first HDEO engine oil you bought?

    ESSO 30 grade "FleetGuard" IIRC

    Battery powered grease guns

On my compact utility tractor and Ventrac equipment, my DeWalt greaser is way overkill and sits idle was I use an old lever grease gun. The DeWalt is very powerful and generally clears clogger zerts. Could have spent my money more wisely. prs

    Red Grease?

If all of the oil has sperated out of it and is seeping out of the seals, it is probably Mobile One Synthetic. If it looks like healthy red grease, Lucas Red'n Tacky is a common good bet. Your black grease is probably moly doped and not the best choice for wheel bearing if that theory really is...

Substitute for John Deere Hy-Gard J20D?

J20 specs are on almost every crap to platinum level aftermarket hytran fluid out there. They are NOT all created equal. The John Deere site explains this. The low vis Hyguard is really good stuff and my only fault with it is questionable protection in the hot summer months with long hard hours...

    HDEO in motorcycles

Since our government regulators have changed the rules regarding diesel oils VS oils approved for gasoline motor use, the oil companies are no longer permitted to list gasoline quality specifications on oils markedted for diesels. The supposed problem was higher than permitted anti-wear...

New T6 bottles missing API SM?

OK, may I show my lack of understanding? I have been using HD oil in my gasoline engines for decades. The oils were rated for either "C"ompression or "S"park service. Our gubermint regulators have changed the rools such that the refiners/marketers of the oil have had to change their litsting of...

    CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE!

I am surprised that so mamy are having trouble with their tires losing air, presumably via the inner bladder or maybe Schrader valve. I wonder how diligent your tire installer is about cleaning the rim's bead seats and using a proper lube when seating beads. They should not leak enough to be...

What is blue grease used for?

Color is not a use code. Tell us what the printed cartridge or tube says.

Proper method to apply dielectric grease...

Well, I am still not sure of the answer. I think I will strive to get clean bright and firm metal to metal contact and then have the protective coating of grease to the outside surfces of the metal and insde of the contact pritective sleeve/boot. Doing what CRC video shows has led to...

Proper method to apply dielectric grease...

... to electrical connections. I know my technique, but I may be a self taught idiot. So, does one slather the grease onto the conductors and plastic, rubber connector surfaces? Or does one only apply the grease to the conductors? Or just to the surface of the male connecter? My way is to only...

    Plain Red grease

Well, not that Loneryder has his quest well answered. I do not mind adding to the blovation. The red grease shown above may be a bleeder, I do not know; but the grease I think is most thought of as being a bleeder is Mobil One Synthetic. That red stuff would bleed in the deep freezer. Lucas Red...

    Valvoline crimson

The Crimson has a good extreme pressure package of additives. It is an older technology, but very good for the applications you noted. The SynPower "should" out perform it on high pressure sliding surface applications, but I doubt any difference you would write home about. prs

    Does GC-LB indicate quality?

Thanks to Ramblejam for the alphabet soup explanation. Red'n Tacky is not bad or [censored] grease. There are "better" ones and none are best for everything, although some are close. Weeping in the gun or oil separation happens with many greases and some say it is a necessary trait of good...

Can these two greases be mixed,

Zukinut, you really won't be mixing the grease in the wheel bearing application. Clean out the old before packing with new. You can probably purge or clean the Birfield joints too. Its not rocket science, select a high quality, multipurpose grease that is tacky, washout resistant, and good...

Different grease bases, whats the deal?

Some do a few things with superior excellence. some do most things pretty darn well. Many do most things passable. Few, if any, do everything with superior excellence; but we can always hope. It is commonly agreed that selecting an appropriate type and sticking with it is a good thing. For...

    Which grease would you choose...

That vehicle will see frequent service regardless the brand or blend of grease. I would use either NGLI-2 lithium complex EP without moly or the shear resistant type of polyurea such as JohnDeere. Either will save ya some money for more gas and parts. Same for U joints, if they last long enough...

    ZDDP in new CK-4 oils

Seems a shame that products we need are being dis-improved in the misguided concept of progress. I also use CJ-4 lube in gasoline engines and perhaps I should shun SN oil there too. Sounds as if the new grade will NOT be backward compatible for me. prs

Schaeffers 238 for 2016 Suburban Tie Rod Ends

No big deal even if they "don't play well together". Use the product you prefer, once some excess begins to purge past the boots, gently pump 5 or 5 more gentle strokes to fully purge the OE residual. You may not get it all the first time, but you won't leave much either. prs
