Just used 2.5 year old brake fluid. Works great!

You guys could save a lot on your water bill if you drink your used brake fluid. Ever since I started drinking my used brake fluid, I've cut my water bill in half and I've won so many internet arguments. The health benefits are amazing! I've also been collecting urine from all of the...

BITOG has been slowly turning into a safe space for extreme cheapskate nonsense. Like rust inside the brake lines, so are the days of our lives...

    Fleet filter suggestion

Based on what I've seen from both, Wix (Napa Gold) and Hastings are very close in terms of solid construction and quality filter media. I would be comfortable using either brand. For engines that spend a lot of time at wide open throttle, I like to use wire backed synthetic media filters. Wix...

    Home-Made Bypass: Hydraulic Filters??

I have considered doing what you describe. The Donaldson filters you mentioned have a maximum operating temperature of 225 F. Oil temperatures can get hotter than this. That was the deal breaker for me. If your engine has an oil cooler and the maximum oil temperatures never exceed 225 F, then...

2 6l90's toast close to the same mileage?

clinebarger, Do you think that this application would benefit from a spin-on hydraulic filter installed within the cooler circuit? Similar to Allison transmissions that use an external spin-on filter.

    FRAM COR4967 - 13,239 miles

At 13,239 miles, this is expected behavior in my opinion. I would not run any cellulose based filter that far. I will speculate that the oil looks bad because the engine has gone many miles with the equivalent of no filter.

    Pro-Tec 130

The pattern with these jobber grade filters seems to be a thinner and weaker media. Great if you own a quick lube shop. Great if you don't keep a vehicle very long. The consequences of increased engine wear will fall on someone else at a later time. They may work great, or they may tear before...

vw - adding external trans filter

That 33343 fuel filter might work, but the lack of a bypass valve is a bit of concern. Personally, I would not use it unless there was a back pressure gauge on the cooler circuit to warn of an over pressure condition. The Wix 51515 and its equivalents work great for transmission filters, they...

    Best filter?

It depends how serious you want to get. The basic approach is to use a high quality filter in the factory configuration. This leaves the bypass valve in place, which means the engine may see unfiltered oil at times. That usually isn't an issue, and plenty of race engines last just fine this...

    Serious, or not so much?

It would be interesting to replace the filter with an empty can on a new car. Do OCI's according to the owners manual or go by the oil life monitor. See how long it lasts before the engine shows signs of excessive wear.
