That filter is long gone, but there is a Subaru Forester in the family with about 10k miles on it that will have its oil changed in the near future. It uses the same filter. I'll cut that one open if you're interested.

This is my mother's car. The bulk of her driving is to and from work which is ~25 miles of mostly highway cruising each way. Given how unremarkable these UOAs have been, I may not bother to sample it next time. On the other hand, it's currently running the new gas-to-liquid stuff from Pennzoil...

Looking for UOA with oil treatments

Incidentally, the censored word in that first post starts with c and ends with rap. I didn't realize that was such a bad word. I guess I should have put dirt or grit or junk or something.

This is my father's car, though it's often used by my sister as well. I was surprised by this at first, but upon reflection it makes some sense. The air filter needed replacing, which has now been done. Also of note, oil leaked from the oil filter (it collected and accumulated [censored]...

If I'm not mistaken Valvoline oils use Na as an additive. I generally prefer oils without Na so that a head-gasket/coolant leak would be easier to spot in a UOA. That being said, I'll keep Maxlife in mind. On the other hand, should I really be taking advice from Garak? Simple tailor, my ass.

My car leaks a fair bit of oil. Out of curiosity and for a fun little experiment, I wanted to try LiquiMoly's (AKA LubroMoly) Motor Oil Saver. It is very thick, akin to pouring honey, so it will definitely thicken the oil mixture. Using a thicker oil to slow a leak isn't exactly a revelation -...
