How to make ring seat properly?

The Motoman method has been discussed here and in other forums for several years now. Nothing new really but just like oil and additives, you'll get different opinions about it.

    Motul Engine Clean

I bought a 3-yr old BMW 3 yrs ago that had some sludging according to the mechanic. I felt like spending some money that time and tried Motul Engine Clean, and then used the expensive Motul 300V 5W-40 after that. Didn't feel a difference after changing the oil. The MSDS is hard to find but...

    Auto-Rx in '02 Lexus ES300

The Lexus was on dealer-provided 20W-50 dino oil. Not clear if the OCI was 10,000 km or less. Could you clarify that Falcon_LS? For the BMWs, yes, they spec BMW LL-01 synthetic oil. They are either thick xW-30 or thin xW-40, with viscosity ranging from 11.5 to 14.0 cSt @100°C. The most popular...

    Redline ATF

Red Line Synthetic ATF or D4 ATF would be the 'right' product, but I would think it's overkill. I'd rather use a cheap Dexron III from any reputable brand and change it more often. That said, I'm using the Red Line D4 on a '04 BMW transmission and like most others, satisfied with it so far.

    Auto-Rx in '02 Lexus ES300

Agreed. That's what I actually recommend to friends here -- 5,000 km on dino/semisyn or 10,000 km on full synthetic. Following the BMW OBC causes too much trouble. On a side note, how much is M1 0W-40 in Kuwait? Here it's US$16/liter. Most of our U.S. friends don't know how good they have it.

    Auto-Rx in '02 Lexus ES300

Well, I'll take that 5,000 km dino oil OCI anytime over the long synthetic one. That's how I discovered this forum (and Auto-Rx) in the first place. The previous owner of my BMW had the oil changed at 20,000 km. By the time I got it at only 36,000 km it was already sludged. Granted we live in a...

    Auto-Rx in '02 Lexus ES300

Strange, I always thought dealers were obligated to follow factory recommendations for warranty and liability reasons. Maybe that's because Lexus doesn't do that 4-yr/50,000 mile free 'maintenance' like what Audi/BMW/MB does?

    MMO full oci?

Gary Allan says on this neighboring thread that MMO dropped the o-Dichlorobenzene back in 2002.

    Auto-Rx in '02 Lexus ES300

I've learned that the best way to mitigate the poor structural design of the E46 expansion tank is to keep the water level at minimum, not maximum. Too many drivers fill to the brim causing too much pressure for the plastic expansion tank to handle. Anyway, back to topic ... what's the factory...

Question on Auto Rx...is it working?

Chris B., did you 'feel' any performance improvements (i.e. smoothness, better torque, quieter engine) during the first 1,000 miles of the clean phase? From my experience and others that was the most noticeable benefit. The cleaning comes late in the process, and in most cases only if done...

Mobil 1 better cleaner than AutoRx?

Used repeatedly would probably mean an OCI of at most 3,000 miles (5,000 km). Most BMW dealers here use Mobil 0W-40 but follow the 'recommended' 10k-15k mile OCI. The 4-cylinder E36/E46 316i/318i models are particularly prone to sludging because of that with their oil sump at only 4.25 liters.

Can this thread be locked already please? It's "about auto-rx" but for the last several pages it's turned out to be something else.

    Castrol SLX Professional 5W30 question

Does it really matter if it's PAO or Group III? It's MB 229.51. Daimler has already done the extensive tests on making sure it's an excellent oil.

Why is my chamois falling apart?

I thought chamois has been out of vogue for quite some time, now totally replaced by microfiber.

New to us 2004 BMW 530i

MCompact, any photos of that 1975 2002A of yours? You're right, bimmers can be addictive. Really great drivers' cars and actually easy to maintain DIY. I started with an E46 and now restoring an E23. Been looking for an E24 635CSi but can't find one for a decent price in my part of the world.

When will the government ban cigarettes outright?

Think of it this way ... If cigarettes were only invented today, there's ABSOLUTELY NO WAY it could reach store shelves. It's a proven *ADDICTIVE* long-term poison. Softdrinks, fast food, and other kinds of unhealthy food shouldn't even be considered in the same category. If people give an...

    about auto-rx

That's 18 bottles of Auto-Rx for your M54 engine, sprintman. Could go for the record of the most expensive oil change in Oz for an E46.

    Need help PLEASE

I also think it might be a bad design or sloppy manufacturing of the anti-drain back valve (ADBV). I've seen ADBVs made of thin metal/plastic and cheap looking springs. Somehow they get easily stuck open. But it occurs after years and years of service. I see an expensive recall coming for an...
