Why are OEM tires so bad?

The cars need to come with tires and need to get the best fuel economy all for the lowest price ..

Diff oil to quiet diff whining

I put 120,000 on the whiney 8.25 differential in my Jeep before I tore it apart to regear the Jeep. That always made a LOT of noise. When we tore everything apart, nothing looked like it had 215,000 miles on it. It looked like a 50K mile differential. Pinion bearings felt nice, carrier...

Which domestic 3-row crossover would last the longest?

My mistake - I thought OP was looking at current gen explorers with a longitudinal engine. The sideways ones ... yeah, no good. Transverse , V6 is always a hard NO for me. Out of that list ,only the Durango or 21 Exploder are what I'd chose.

Which domestic 3-row crossover would last the longest?

Definitely. The longitudinally mounted 3.5 are great engines!

Deer and other animals continuously ramming my car

My old Taurus had a penchant for birds. I was always hitting birds and having to pull them off of the cowl.

DEXRON V1 MERCON LV Multivehicle ATF

I have always seen that DexVI, Mercon LV and Toyota WS are almost identical fluids. Just with different manufacturer license.

2002 Ford with original green coolant.

My Grand Marquis had nasty coolant when I got it. I've changed the coolant in it 4 or 5 times, flushed once and it still turns to nasty stuff in 20 minutes.

The cost of living in 2024....

Even in our low cost of living area, it's getting up there. We're pretty happy with our mo-bile home on an actual 1 acre parcel and the $1000 mortgage. It's comfortable. Apart from student loans I don't have any non-mortgage debt and am able to 401k/set aside pretty nicely. I guess my fiance has...

Building a 12x16 shed - Screws vs nails

I don't like using nails but I have a few pneumatic nailguns and a LOT of framing nail coils. When I build a shed this summer, I'm just going to use the pneumatic even though I really dislike nails.

Modern Turbo Engine Reliability and Durability

People fall all over themselves for turbodiesels for perceived reliability. But in a gas engine, suddenly the turbo is a major concern and is going to 100% fail by 50k miles. I never understood that. Modern turbos aren't only oil cooled any more. They often have coolant lines and the...

Any of you ever lose the "love" for your hobby?

I don't have a truck at the moment and the Jeep isn't really drivable. I bought a 4 wheeler over the summer and haven't even looked at the Jeep since October of last year. I used to love offroading the jeep, working on it. The 4 wheeler is where it is for me now. Once I get a truck , I...

High mile 4.6 Ford - Ok to use heavier oil?

I just did timing chains / tensioners / guides / arms on my 01 4.6 with 135k-ish miles on it. I ran 5w-30 because that's what I had when I did the chains in october. Even with new parts, it had some timing chain rattle on a cold start. With the 0w-20 that's in it now, it rarely makes any noise...

New fuel level sensor in 2001 Lincoln only updates from a refill.....AFTER the next restart. Normal?

My 2001 Grand Marquis does this. The gauge will eventually come up. But I've filled up with the car running and driven 60 miles after and it still wasn't registered all the way up to 7/8 yet. I have had at least 3 other 2001 Ford products that won't update the level after refueling unless you...

    CVT and engine braking

I do kinda wish our Nissan didn't go right to the rev limiter when but in L or "overdrive" is turned off. Mild engine braking by turning off "overdrive" would be nice, but it acts like you have lost all brakes. I played around with that a bit on our 2017 before it was trade don the 2019.
